my club is currently trialling tee time bookings. im not sure if its a good or bad thing. your thoughts please?

Personally, my last club had tee booking and it was a nightmare of having to phone up to get a tee time two weeks in advance if you like to play a certain time (my case we play early as we all have young children).
My current club uses a ball chute and its a much better system. Regulated pretty much by the members and avoids the frustration of not being able to play even though you pay your subs. My last club did not allow play before 7am. Whereas my current club is easy going.

I would have problems being a member at a club with tee booking. The experience of a couple of local clubs is that certain organised groups (normally seniors, not having a dig just fact) are well drilled at getting the times they want booked well in advance with enough members involved to shut out a fair block of tee times. The experience of other members was that it was difficult to get a time between 8 and 10 in the morning as a result. I prefer being able to pitch up when I want and I admit to not being organised enough to plan my weekend round a week in advance.
I like the ball chute, we have one in winter so as we do not have to queue in the cold but I would have it all year round as I would rather wait in the club house with a coffee and bacon roll than by the first tee. That would have to help club revenue.

We have the BRS system and have done for a couple of years now, it works ok but as mentioned a few sneaky members do try and block book times so they get the most preferential but it isnt really a big problem and we get roughly the same times each week give or take half an hour.
Nairns booking system works very well. We have 3 blocks a day for members and you can book anytime in advance if you want.
As I only play comps at the weekend it's not a problem for me.
Also you can see whos booked times in real time so know when to avoid the place. for instance when 200 yanks have booked the afternoon.

Our tee times are all booked but you can only book every other tee time a week in advance and the in between ones 24 hours in advance. This stops members from block booking times months in advance.

Don't forget...
If you have a tee time booked in a comp drawn by the club and you want to swap with someone, you can't just swap. Oh no. You MUST inform the committee of the change.
Failing to do so is such a terrible crime the penalty for both players is DISQUALIFICATION

We have tee booking and it's a bit of a pain. But you get used to it.
As members we can book 2 weeks in advance, non-members only 1. And it's members only Sat\Sun mornings.
As we play at the same time each weekend we usually get a tee time close to when we want providing we remember to book it two weeks ahead.
Mid-week can be a nightmare. I've known during the summer having to book 2-3 days in advance to get any tee time between 7 and about 4.

Roll up at anytime except when there is a comp on at my place. They are well publicised and I'm in all the ones I can enter anyway so that isn't an issue for me. I have to be honest and say the convenience of rocking up anytime including weekend afternoons (millionaire golf most Sundays after 4.00) and after work in the summer is worth a couple of hundred quid of the fees. I'd hate to have to try and book a time for a game in the evening and then be reliant on the train from work running so I'd get there on time or having to call 10 days in advance and hope to get a convenient weekend slot.

i just find it a pain in the ass!! who wants to book well in advance?!?! i managed to finish work early for summer this week, so drove all the way back to Bath hoping for a game. get home, look on the booking page, and its booked solid until 6pm! will have to get out of bed early,like i do on weekends, and play at 7am! id much rather rock up at 10, see whos about, then play when i feel like playing

The club where my dad plays has a Tee time booking system, the seniors get up early to book their times for the coming weekend.
Monday mornings in the club house looks like pension day at the post office as they all queue to get a time.

We generally don't have much problem getting our normal Friday slot as long as we're organised enough - and we are!
