Went over to the heath today to practice my pitching over 75 yards. Used my alignment sticks to ensure the right set up and had a flag to aim at. The majority of my pitches were clustered 4-8 yards right of the flag.

However, there was no fade or slice they were just starting off on that line. I was thinking that maybe the ball was too far back in my stance meaning that on connection the club face would still be open. Can't think of anything else it could be.

Any ideas? The frustrating thing is if the flag had been 6 yards to the right I'd have hit about 20 out of 30 balls to within 8 feet.

My guess would be that either the ball is a fraction too far back in your stance, or, your not quite squaring the clubface again (wrists), combo of both even?

But, I'd be well pleased pitching to 8 feet mate.

Cheers Spinn

It's a shame that the other ten were thinned through the green or duffed well short!!! ;)

I think I am getting there just wish I'd had more time today to figure out where I was going wrong. I'll have a close look at ball position next time out. If it's not that you maybe right on follow through though normally for me that causes a fade.

Are you committing yourself to the shot?
Are you facing the target on completion of the swing,I myself have a tendency to leave pitches out a little to the right and have found hitting the ball with a crisper strike and turning through to face the target helps.

Also make sure your not taking to long a back-swing,and subconsciously quitting on the forward swing

from the original post it seems that are two alignment sticks - i was assuming they are set up square, though can see where your going with this....there may only be the one

You don't say what loft you were using or if you were taking a full swing or not. I find that with a 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 swing the ball tends to go right as the swing path tends to be from in to out.

There is one line through the ball to the flag
the second through your toes should be parrallel to that line, so pointing left of your target

You see this is why I love this forum. I could have spent a lesson with my pro getting to the bottom of this when there are far more important things he needs to fix. Instead I come on here and you wonderful people can point me in the right direction :D

I was using a half swing so I need to open my stance more and hey presto the ball should travel to my target?

The stick nearest your feet needs to run parallel (typo?) to your target line, the stick furthest from your feet should point at the target - the flag.

If the stick on your toes is at the flag then your going to be aiming down the right from address (im assuming your right handed)

if its the first time its happened i would just forget about it,go back tomorrow and you probably wont do it. thats something that has happened to me in the past :)

Stick by the ball was aiming at the flag. Stick at my feet was parrallel. Left foot splayed open about 45 degrees. Half swing with a 52 Gap Wedge. A few have suggested a more open stance is this the way to go?

I dont splay my left much, but the rest of the set up sounds pretty good to me. Try again another afternoon, could be a strange one off. Dont forget to turn through to face the target too is all else i can think of

Keep working at it all
