Noticed that there seems to be an anti TM theme around the forum

Am I imaging it ?

If not can reasons be given ?

Is it purely because they release a lots of clubs ?

I think it's because people get a bit razzed off with the hype and marketing that all golf manufacturers do, with TM being seen as probably the worst offenders. (unless GM is offering a TM fitting opportunity, in which case they are the best manufacturer ever ;))

Also the rate at which they release new clubs seems to upset a few people. Myself I don't care as it means you can pick up a model that it at worst one year old, for nearly half the price of a new one.

Plus they are very successful so they are obviously doing something right.

Strong lofts, frequent product launches, vivid colours.

Always going to generate a lot of faux outrage amongst the "old school" out there.

If you like the advertised product- buy it.

If you don't- don't.

I don't mind TM clubs, I have owned drivers and currently a putter.

Their marketing claims are nonsense, and their stock shafts rubbish.

But their R&D dept is top notch

No you're not imagining it. As others have said, the excessive hype and frequency of releases seem to be the biggest issue; it seems like if you buy one of their current models in the pro shop it could be superseded before you make it to the first tee.

I was a full on TM fan having a full bag of tour burner woods and tour preferred irons. In the end I got wound up that I would buy something and it got usurped a few months later. That and marketing bluff that was never going to be realistic to the average golfer. Is there a reason they need to whack stuff out as often as they do. Now Ping and the clubs better for me and no chance of them banging a new set before the 18-24 year cycle

18 - 24 year

Blimey will you still be posting then.

So you got wound up because you didn't have the newest stuff ?

Have you bought the S55's then ?

Ping have released two sets of Irons this year and a new driver

Next year it will be another two sets of ruins no doubt and another driver.

What about the tour preferred sat in the garage?

I see you've got a bag full of TM, and obviously a fan.

Have you checked the loft and lie on your irons. I've heard their build quality on the iron specs is questionable. The lofts & lies are often not as spec'd

All checked and no probs at all.

Built quality is spot on.

I like my TM gear, but only got my irons because they were dirt cheap (£150 when only 9 months old) and got the wedges to match. My driver I bought after trying 6/7 different models in the same price bracket. I too however still gripe about TM, or at when people get sucked into the hype of the new gear. All too often you see on forums or round the golf club people planning on snapping up the latest clubs without trying it against other clubs. Just promotes bad buying habits in my opinion.

'Twas a serious question. My tp mcs were all over the shop but they were off the shelf.

Also I've got a spider blade putter. It's a good bit of kit, the tech works, but the build quality is not great.

All golf companies have followed TM's lead in terms of launch cycle, but in my experience the build quality of ping and callaway for example are superior to TM. I sometimes get the feeling they rush product to market to beat their competition .

Many manufacturers release too many clubs too soon after the last set of a similar genre
TM are by no means the only offenders.
They just seem to be because they shout the loudest about it.
That and their distance claims are, I think, turning plenty of people away from them.
Sure, they sell loads of kit and have many followers but I'm not one of them.....

Got mine fitted and not noticed any probs with the build quality.

I love my burner woods and rescue clubs.
I have tried new TM gear, however never once have I felt obligated to buy.
Unless they go bust they must be doing something right.

At the London Golf show, I saw a chap hitting a TM 7 iron, not sure of the model but it had a slot in the bottom. He was hitting it nicely, and the the man from TM was telling him that his reading was showing he was hitting it 200 yards. The chap queried this more than once, and was then told the reading was wind assisted. What a load of old cobblers.
