Hi

I have managed to get down to 8/9 h'cap hitting a 3 wood off the tee but this winter I have realised that I am giving up a LOT of distance over playing partners (around 40 - 50 yards). I put this down to a very high ball flight with 3 wood and getting old :-(

I have therefore borrowed a friends driver (TM R11, 10.5 degree reg shaft) to try. I have hit it extremely well and have regained the lost yardage. I just cannot stand the white paint job so I have been looking around for something similar.

I have spotted a TM Superdeep, 10.5 degree, reg shaft (RIP). This really suits my eye as I really like very deep faced drivers and my misses tend to be high or low on the face, not out of the heel/toe. I have read that this club is only suited to strong swingers and low handicap players as it is a low spin head ( I dont really understand what a low spin head means tbh).

I cant try it before i buy it so I wondered if anyone here has any experience of this club.

My SS is approx 100mph and i play natural fade (but hook a K15)

Thanks in advance

Hi Edgey,

MY mate has got the Superdeep TP with a diamana shaft. He hits it seriously straight and very long. Not had chance to have a go myself yet as I have a broken shoulder. I think it looks good and sounds nice when struck out the middle. I am maybe a bit biased as I love TM drivers and now on my 6th one.........

if your swing is 100mph you should be using a stiff shaft and not the regular you mentioned.you'll be losing yardage because of this, has your 3 wood got a regular shaft by any chance?

you'll gain a more pentrating ball flight by using the stiff shaft and chances are you'll be more accurate,no missed shots to the left with a good swing.

the low spin means exactly that, you will produce less backspin on the ball which in return will give you a lower ball flight and more roll out when the ball lands.ultimately this will give you more carry distance and overall distance so long as you are creating enough ball speed which you should be with 100mph swings.

Edgey, Tried the Superdeep and the Supertri when looking to change my driver and went with the latter, found the head on the Supertri slightly bigger which instilled a bit more confidence over the ball, good luck mate...

Hi

Thanks for the advice. I have looked at the reg in the RIP shaft as I dont load a shaft very hard with a late wrist release. Whenever i have used stiff shafts in the past I have struggled as they feel "boardy" and a little "dead". I also lose a lot of shots to the right when I use a stiff shaft.

The RIP is supposed to be pretty stout and I thought the Reg may play firmer than the usual OEM stuff. Maybe i should look at this issue again.

Thanks for the thoughts

What did the Superdeep play like compared to the super tri. I have hit a super tri 10.5 and liked it but do prefer the idea of a very deep face.

Given that they are both 460cc i assume the bigger head on the super tri is a visual thing.

Thanks
