Talkative playing partners/fellow competitors...

Well, i played with the Chatterers again this weekend (well one of them, who was keen to chat to the third in our group) and decided to take some of the advice from this thread.

When the non chatterer was teeing up, I made sure that I stood just far away enough from the Talker, so that she couldn't whisper to me without raising her voice. But she still didn't get the hint.

Finally on the 5th hole, I teed up, took my stance and the whispering was still going on.
So I backed off and said "I'll just wait until you've finished your conversation"

Did the trick and the rest of the round was played in good humour and with good chat, but only when someone wasn't playing their ball!

Result - I'm going to follow suit next time

I would of politely nipped it in the bud the first, if not second time. For all the willing in the world they might not of been aware of it and if you'd asked at the beginning you could of concentrated on your game.
I'm new to golf competitions but i'm a professional sportsman elsewhere and if you are polite, firm and you set your stall out early on they know your there to enjoy and compete. It's the best medium.
Otherwise you can very much be back in the clubhouse blaming yourself, them, as to where that duffed, topped shot was and how it could of been.

(I didn't read the final posts and saw you resolved it - brilliant. Im sure there was no malice in it whatsoever)

"Sorry to interrupt your interruption but do you mind if I play my shot." Said a bit tongue in cheek with a wry grin, but it usually works.
