Swopping the driver for 3 wood

Drawboy would you like to try the 9degree callaway steelhead driver I have got under the stairs same size as a 3 wood but a solid feel and a driver loft

It's not that pal. I do not believe in it for the average handicap golfer who like me cannot produce a repeatable swing. The swing I am fitted for will be different by the weekend that is a certainty. So I do not see the point. As long as I have the right flex for my swing speed the rest is down to personnel preference in my book, rightly or wrongly.

Couldn't agree more.

Cobra amp cell I have one of these and they are fantastic . I have put a 3 wood shaft in it and it is totally under control but is still long of the tee the adjustment helps to dial in trajectory you want. Any driver you can put a 3 wood shaft in will help with ball striking and if you don't mind losing a few yards to get accuracy will help. most driver shafts these days are to long for most players to control.

Solid feeling driver that you can feel....

Best of both worlds....
Iv hit a ping K15 12.0 degree head with a Project X 5.5 shaft and it was an animal of a club... I couldnt hit this thing right if i aimed there... It either wanted to travel with a 4 yard draw or it went dead straight.....
I opened up my stance to hit a cut and i couldnt....
Ok it might border on the look of training wheels on the tee in front of everyone else and their kit but you'll be the one playing off the short stuff more often..

Love that shaft, I have that in my octane, I've never hit a driver so straight and consistent

Kinda agree with the custom fit thing drawboy, my driver was off the shelf, I tried it at the shop for half an hour to make sure I hit it well enough, but beyond that it's just the stock version

If you struggle with consistency and play regularly I'd look at a lesson to give you some drills that will give a repeatable swing.

Regarding the driver "solid" is a hard word to define because like balls it becomes subjective and down to personal feel. One driver that felt solid to me when I tried it was the Ping G15. It didn't have the hot off the face when flushed feel, it didn't have the best feel and it didn't hit the ball the furthest but it was very easy to use, felt solid and did exactly what a good driver should do and that was put the ball down the middle with good height and distance.

The Anser is a good driver but you need a good consistent swing to get the best out of it.

You could consider ditching driver altogether and going with a 3 wood that is aimed more for tee use.

For example:

XHot Pro 3 Deep
X2 Hot Pro 2 Deep
X2 Hot Pro 3 Deep
TM SLDR Mini Driver (soon to be released)

The difference in distance between driver and this type of 3 wood is probbaly less than you think.

Take a look at my Flightscope stats below and you can see that I'm only marginally longer with the driver than I am my 3 wood, but my 3 Deep feels so compact and solid in comparison to drivers... plus it offers much greater accuracy.
