Switching to the Halifax

I switched about 18 months ago. As long as you dont go overdrawn, have more than 750 quid paid in each month and have at least 2 direct debits go out it is akin to getting a free fiver each month! Plus the reward for switching.

That's what I was told.
I just wondered if there were any surprises in the small print.

Thanks.
Might be worth a look :)

I've not had any problems at all with it. I cant remember reading the small print in any great depth and have had no problems. It would appear that as long as you abide by the three rules mentioned earlier you should be fine.

Bank account may be OK but in our experience they have been a PITA to deal with from notifying them of father-in-laws death to registering the power of attorney which we had to do for mother-in-law. It took two hours for them to put the POA on the account and then they didn't even sort out the internet banking even though they should have done. I'm expected to go in again:rant: I'm not doing and the plan is to close the account with them.

Thanks Chellie.

I have been with then a while. No issue. Decent Online services.

I've been with RBS for the best part of 35 years, originally with Williams & Glyns who were taken over by RBS. No problems until I really needed them and they let me down badly with an incredibly poor level of customer service. So I'm on the hunt for a bank and am strangely drawn by the Halifax's offer of £125 to switch and £5 a month after that - after all free money isn't to be sniffed at. I just don't want to have to use internet banking.

I use the 123 account with santandar, get interest on savings over 1000 of 1%, 2% if you balance is over 2k and 3% from 3k upto 20k. It costs me £2 per month but the money returned in interest and cash back from direct debits amount to between £9 and £12 a month so more than covers the account charge. £2 per month for the 123 credit card which gives cash back at most supermarkets and on fuel purchases, so again more than covers the fee. only £500 has to be deposited per month. works well for me

That's the important bit. Most of the big banks are now offering bits and pieces. The 123 account wouldnt work for me but it does for many. It is now a case of shopping around. Switching is so easy now and the banks are offering all sorts of goodies to move. You'd be mad to stay put these days!

Would agree with this.
We have just switched from the Halifax to Santander 123 account and feel we are better off.
The efficient way the switch was undertaken could have been a text book lesson for customer relations.

Thanks for the replys. I'll keep in touch with my neighbour and see how he gets on with them

I used to be a manager at Halfax. Switching should be quick (now 1 week service) and the Reward Current account will return £5 per month if you stay in credit, pay in £750 per month (was £1000 when I was there) and have at least 2 direct debits coming out of it. So basically £60 per year for nowt if you don't use an overdraft.

If something goes wrong-complain. The bank will sort you out if it's not your fault.

Service in the banking industry is getting better because it's the thing that has to separate them from the competition because many of the products are similar.
