Swinging vs Hitting

Just happened upon the same thing this weekend, two tips to see if you swing or hit. I find it tricky to do both at the same time (even though it shouldn't be?!)

1. Take a deep breath then exhale at a constant rate while you hit a shot, not a practice swing actually hit a ball. If you hit your exhalation will be interrupted

2. Keep your mouth open throughout the swing. If u hit you'll clench your jaw.

The acid test is to do both of these without a ball. Your practice swing flows. I hit. I must stop.

Good post FD, I think this is a missing link for me, hopefully time to apply it before the white tees get taken in

i've tried swinging at the ball, it just doesn't work for me. I'm real hitter of the ball. (I sacrifice distance but I can handle that)
(The way I explain Swingers and hitters is, swingers release into the ball, hitters release late onto the ball)

And so, having "mastered" golf yesterday with this last piece of the jigsaw I hit it like an absolute idiot today! Only hit a handful of good "full" shots and a host of bad ones. Won't know for sure until I download the Game Golf stats but probably hit only about 6 GIR.... Fortunately I scrambled for Scotland and managed to come in with a decent score, a wee handicap cut is pending!

For me, I think I am 'swinging' but actually I am hitting, and concentrating very hard on hitting it, so much so that my swing is too slow... losing distance and accuracy. Especially off of the tee.

Not too sure how to cure it!

and the search for the holy grail continues...........

Ok I haven't got a clue about swing etc but what's it all about ? Don't we all swing the club ?

The difference is after two years of hitting the ball, last week I started swinging through the ball and managed to get my first cut. The same this weekend, for 14 holes I played well and swung through the ball, but for 4 holes I forgot and tried to power my shots, hitting the ball, which cost me a second consecutive cut.

To put it another way, your not hitting the back of the ball with you club, you're swinging through the ball so that you trying to hit the front of the ball which you'll never be able to do, but in the process of trying the ball just gets in the way or the club and for the most part the strike is so much sweeter.
