We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!
Take away as I'm trying to get my hands to a higher position at the top of the backswing. Tend to take back on the inside and go round my body too much.
I was just curious.
I have had pupils in the passed who have spent months trying to fix their problems and see a lesson as a last resort. (a bit like asking for directions)
I had a guy last week who spent an age over the ball before he hit it. When I asked him what he was thinking he gave me a list.
Set up...
check grip
distance from ball
ball position
posture
chin up
Backswing
low and slow
dont over swing
pause at the top
Downswing
pull the hands straight down
extend
weight on front foot
dont hit the mat
There may even had been more.
(he was hitting a 9 iron)
He thinned his first 2 shots.
I suggested he may try and limit the swing thoughts to just one or two while he was actually swinging, but he insisted he hits the ball better when he goes through his check list.
Some people just want to do it their own way
gone from none, through too many, and now just try to focus on not swinging too fast - which is probably the wrong way round as the brain doesn't react to the no or not and just hears fast.
