Each and every one of us are different so I guess there is no 'right' answer to this question but.......

When you swing to hit the ball do you have any swing thoughts ?

1 or 2 at most.

At the moment I'm thinking about keep my head well behind the ball at impact with my drives and trying to compress it with my irons. Not much beyond that.

I always want to have one for the back swing and sometimes another for the downswing, I find I definately play better if I have a concentrated swing thought, but that thought may well be something different every time I play, depending how a warm up goes, I have a lot of fall back ones that I can use but will always limit it to 1 for the back swing and 1 for the downswing at the absolute most.

From someone that use to have 1308 separate thoughts on every shot I've managed to clear my head thanks to the wise words of the sages on here. I now have one thought for the day depending on what I need. Might be tempo, swing path, turn not slide but whatever it is I stick to it and don't let any others force their way in. Much easier to swing and hit it when thats all you have to worry about

None while I'm actually swinging the club to hit the ball.

While I'm lining it up, practice swishes etc I have "turn don't sway" and "hit it well, don't hit it hard".

I just visualise the shot i wana play ,then just tell myself its the right club no need to try kill it ..

i think you gota keep negative thoughts out , such as dont hit the water , bunker , trees etc .. see where you want the ball to go & swing easy .. thats self thought tho , no science or psychology [sp] involved

I have lots in my preshot or practice swing but non in my actual swing.

I am visualizing an imaginary arrow coming out of the back
of the ball in the direction of the flight path I want to take
and then try and stay relaxed – then swing.

I might have a thought about the starting move to get things on plane and heading in the right direction in the backswing.

I think that is ok as the b/swing is relatively controlled. From the top of the b/s, I think I'd be kidding myself if I thought I could consciously control things. The downswing is a blur and pretty much an inevitable consequence of what went before. It relies on the good (or bad) work that went before it in getting the club in the right position at the top.
