SWING,SWAY AND HEAD MOVEMENT

Having just seen some footage of my swing I cannot believe how much I sway back on my back swing and then sway forwards on down swing. Sometimes my head beats the club to the line of the ball.
My ball striking is improving all the time simply by slowing my swing down to a controllable tempo and not simply trying to tear the skin off the ball. I just now need to try to keep my head still and reduce sway !
Sorry but I cant put footage on here but does any one know any drills to help me out.
Thanks guys/girls.

Try doing some practice with the sun behind your back. If it shines.
That way, you will see if your shadow moves.
Try and think turn, not sway :)

Thanks for replying Bob.
I was actually surprised with the fact I did have quite a lot more turn than I originally thought, with my back just about facing the target.
It was just the huge sway that went with it that was less than complimentary.

Cheers Ill keep trying !!!!

whats your flexibility like?

I have the same problem, I want to swing back far and hit the ball well.. tho my lower back does not allow me to swing the way i do in my head (if that makes sense? lol)

I tilt at the top of my back swing, its been a problem i have had from I started golfing almsot 2 years ago now.

I had/have this problem also. My pro told me to put garden canes at both my legs and keep my body inside thse whilst swinging. I started to do this so I knew I was shifting my weight and couldnt stop!!!

The canes help...and as with most drilss it feel really weird to begin with!

I found when I make sure I load the inside of my right foot on the back swing, I get good hip turn with no reverse pivot and no hip slide forward - this was a MAJOR help to me - tho it may not work for everyone.

Yup....couldn't agree more.
If the weight gets on the outside of the foot (and you shoes are wearing) you know things are not good.
One of the things I carry onto the course. Turn over the right leg (keeping it flexed) but not "outside" the foot.
Good tip.

When I was shown that I swayed backwards a lot I was advised to hit some shots with my feet together to get the feeling of my body not moving backwards. You're forced to keep your body from swaying to keep yourself from losing your balance.

I had exactly the same problem and it was causing me to hit a lot of push shots straight right. I realised my stance was to narrow which cause my hips to slide quite a bit. I moved my feet apart quite a lot and it seemed to stabalise me and stopped the hips sliding and more turning and the results were great. Im no expert but worth a try.
