Swing fiddlers

A very heavy hat and a very sharp cattle grid may yet be the answer.
:D
Chris, try this.
When hitting the ball, dont worry about your head coming up, it's supposed to.
Just keep the angle set between your back and hips a little longer.
I'd say its not your head coming up that's the problem.
Stay in your posture longer and that will keep your head where it shoud be.
HTH :)

I know where you are coming from, and some days I can do this, and some days it is just impossible. It is on the impossible days that I need the hat.

They are a bit quiet, execpt for the wearer, who gets blinded by the inside of the brim.

I like some of their new trousers though. Pity they are so expensive.

I am ardent advocate of lessons and think it is the easiest way to sort any issues out. Why stand at a range and try different things when usually it is one (and not always major) problem and can be fixed easily under a professional's gaze. It makes me laugh at the range watching these guys hit a bad shot, stand there making a number of adjustments and hitting a different bad shot. Then when they hit a good one they can't remember what they did.

I know the three killer faults in my swing and can recognise when they put in a nasty appearance and so to a degree can self-correct. I keep a record of my lessons on SS2 so I can look back at the necessary drill I've used before to make the change.

Sorry Homer, don't want to take this piss here, but you aren't the best of adverts for having lessons!! :o

You must spend hundreds and hundreds seeing various pros and I am yet to read a post from you that trumpets a good score or decent round.

I agree with Homer. Because i have regular lessons i feel a good understading of my swing and know how to correct it to a certain level. I feel i can't just self teach my swing as for me personally It doesn't work. But i think it is personal. :)

Sorry Homer im with Robobum on this one,it also makes me laugh at people that spend hundreds of pounds on lessons and never improve, your handiap has been the same all year, surely you should of improved by now,Either its you that hasnt got the ability or capaity to learn or your so called trainer, coach cant teach.Ihave been known to be one of these players at the range you describe, however it doesnt take me hundreds of pounds to work it out.

I started golf in my early teens, and got down to 10 with no lessons, no books, no internet, pure blades, tiny woods and (when I could afford them) balata balls, and carried an old leather bag with a single leather strap with hardly any padding and I was 9st dripping wet.

All I had was copying what I saw on tv and playing with people better than myself. I'd swing in the garden looking at my reflection in the window.

I started playing again last year. I have better equipment, leccy trolley, and have had a couple of lessons.
I'm still about the same standard as I was when I was a kid, but after the video lesson especially, I feel I now have a better chance of improving than I've ever had.
The main improvement is in the basics. I think it's a much better base to build from.

And yes, I am a massive massive fiddler, and think it's a huge failing in me.

Your entitled to your opinion. However I think I've only had five or six lessons this year and one of those was short game specific and one to cure a dose of the shanks so hardly spending equivalent of the national debt

I've improved. I'm getting there slowly and I can see progress even if my handicap hasn't caught me up yet. It's the same with a lot of us though, translating it into a competitive round. It doesn't mean I'm not hitting good shots or my teacher isn't very good. Lets not forget I've gone from 18-11 and back to 12 over the last three years so that isn't bad progress.

If you have (or log on and do so) my blog you'll see that there has been plenty of trumpeting of good rounds throughout the year. In fact I was the best player amongst the toher 3 GM forum members on the longest day and remember making quite a big noise about that feat

Evening Bob,
I havent had a lesson yet but may well get 1 a month for the winter and make a good go at getting the handicap reduced next season.
I play with what feels naturally to me and the only thing that i haven't cracked yet is a little consistency....
I seem to shoot 0.1's for weeks and then all of a sudden everything clicks and i shoot way under my handicap ....Id say that the handicap secretary is scratching his head at me.

I fought a slice when i first got serious about the game but realised after a few months it was because of a very weak grip on the club.....Fixed this....
Next is to get solid alignement and try and get the one ball flight so that im not too erratic. :o
Iv played hurling up until i was 21 and any of the scottish welsh or irish lads on here will know that to swing at a ball in this sport isnt a million miles away from swinging at a golfball...
So hopefully its onwards and downwards im going :D

Fiddler, and always have been. I've had one lesson and I just don't have the time to change, I would like to change my grip but I am a good striker of the ball (with irons) at the moment and just want to go out there on a weekend and play golf.

I had a free 1/2 hour lesson with the Pro when I first joined a club in '93. That 1/2 hour actually lasted 10 minutes!
Never had one since but have had pointers from Pro friends/aquaintences over the years.

How do I teach myself?
Honestly I don't know. It just happens. Swing it back, swing it through.........
I have no technical knowledge of the Golf Swing, I don't know if the elbows are in the right place, the hands correct etc etc

But I'm down to 8.2 so I must be doing something right.

Started way back in the darkness of time, had lessons at school from a very good teacher.
Over the years when things have gone wrong (hitting to the right-standing to close) a quick lesson for the local pro has cured the fault.
Last one was starting to slice bad again left grip being lazy a quick lesson and the problem solved.
just need to remember them when I am playing, which is the difficult part. If you try and think during a swing other things go wrong. :D
You then end up duffing or thining duck hooking or really slicing.
So I try and have a clear thought when addressing the ball, its very hard when you are laughing. :D :D

A friend of mine was leaving all his Putts short of the hole, so he asked our Pro if he could help........

The Pro watched him for a few moments, and sure enough, all came up short.

'You just need to hit it a bit harder.......' he murmered, as he turned back into the shop........

You cant beat good advice can you....... :D
