Supplementary score after practice 9 holes

Not questioning integrity. Your opinion on the reliability of a so-called authoritative source may be different to mine.
I would hope that the use of the word 'authority' (on this forum) implies that someone from the appropriate ruling body was involved.
Ruling bodies generally don't like to have their names quoted when responding to informal contact.
But even if I mentioned the authority involved I might still be making it up. ;)

I find it mildly amusing that the OP has high expectations for a good round in the afternoon after maybe 9 "decent" holes in the morning.
I've come off the back of 2 x 41 pointers before with expectations high to score 9 points on the following 9 holes!
Similarly I've gone out in the morning and played like an absolute twonk but burnt it up in the afternoon.
I'd just take the 18 as they come
;)

Couldn't agree more. Sticking a card and a pencil in my hand for 18, after a good 9 holes when there was nothing on it, would be absolutely guaranteed to ensure my form completely deserts me.

Actually I was asking for my son - he plays off 14 but has put so much work in over the winter that as soon as the fairways had some roll he knew it would pay off. He shot 1 under gross for 9 holes in the morning and then 4 over gross in the afternoon. Sadly for him it looks like he is not being cut just yet!

Hopefully - though as a 13 year old he still can't keep his mindset together in Div 1 comps - when he cracks that it should start falling fast.

Club Services at England Golf has responded to the question:

"The Note in Clause 21 refers to practicing on the course (7-1 in the rules of golf). Playing 9 holes then completing a supplementary score is not acceptable. However if it had been a competitive round then the score would have been allowed to stand."

Fair enough. Not sure I see the logic of it, though.

I think the logic is that it has always been acceptable to play 2 complete qualifiers on the same day but not acceptable to play a few practice holes on the course prior to playing a competitive strokeplay round.
