Sun Mountain H2NO Ultra Lite competition

Speed and the ability to multi task on the hoof as your hands are free are the best (many examples of multi tasking listed so will leave at that).
You do not need to think about or plan your route 50 yds from a hazard etc. Small steams / ditches can be stepped over instead of heading for fairway covered ends or bridges.

I used to like reaching in to my insulated pocket to pull out a muesli bar & bottle of water before sticking back in and zipping up.
Unfortunately last winter I did not play for about 4 weeks. A mouse got into my hut and also liked the muesli bars! The only way the little blighter could get them though was to eat through the pocket first :sbox:. Probably my fault for being so minging and not emptying the bag :o.

That has switched me back this season to my cart bag on a trolley. It's not bad but much prefer to carry - grab & go golf is the best on sunny nights, 10 minutes getting ready and packing up is a fair bit when you can get a quick 9 holes in about 70 minutes. That's more than 10% of your golf time just getting ready / packed up.

Out of the hundreds of rounds of golf I've played I've never not carried my clubs, never used a trolley or buggy (or a caddy, keep asking the girlfriend but she's not interested!).

I like going where I want, especially in winter when the white ropes are out to guide trolleys. No walking around greens or having to walk 100yards to the buggy park to get another ball when the first sails OOB. Always first in the bar after putting everything straight in the boot, although that does mean getting the first round in more often than not.

The only problem with my current bag is the zip on the one waterproof pocket has just broken and it seems to rain more in my summer rounds than winter.

Hmmmm.... I think you have all missed the most important thing about carrying your clubs as opposed to "trolleying" them and here it is....

You play better golf as a result.

For those who don't believe me then give it a try, if your a regular trolley user then give it up for a week and I'm pretty sure you will play better golf.

The reason for this is that from car to tee you lift and drop your bag 2 or three times instead of putting it onto the trolly just the once. By the time you get to the first tee your arms/shoulders and back are slightly more warmed up than would be if on your trolley. By the time you get to the second tee your as loose as can be and swinging more freely, you will find it doesn't take the required 4/5 holes to get "warmed up" properly as it normally does. Take the better start into account and you will be in a better frame of mind and will continue to play well for most of the round. (I cannot be accountable for the mind going over the last few holes and you having a disaster as a result of being on a score for a change).

If you use your trolley and it takes 4/5 holes to get into the groove you'll prob of had a bad start and find that your chasing it for the rest of the round and we all know what happens when you chase the game.

Thats it, simple as that.

Disclaimer - This is not a proven fact but my opinion, please feel free to give it a bash and update to see if you agree.....
Additionally - I use a trolley lol the reason for this is for some medical reason, that I have not bothered to get checked out with the docs yet, my feet ACHE so bad after a round, my trolley bag is far too heavy for my poor feet to carry round for 18 holes. I do risk it now and again though and find I play better.

Go on try it out............................

It's all about the exercise for me. Modern working life for me means hours at a desk and golf is my relaxation and exercise rolled into one. That doesn't mean you have to make things difficult for yourself with a heavy carry bag though, the lighter the better as it means a faster walking pace and a quicker round.

Basically I'd say it's better for the environment, and you leave a smaller carbon footprint.
No batteries to charge or dispose of, once it's run it's course, less damage to the course when walking, keeps you fitter etc

Love carrying but don't like my Titleist carry bag, it's uncomfortable and the legs droop and stick in my calves when walking, making me annoyed and therefore miss another par

Love carrying for the simple reason is I can take my dog with me to the course when I want to play a late evening back 9. Leaves me 2 hands to walk her and when I get to my shot I just clip her leash to the bag on the floor. She loves coming out with me at night for her walks and as a result we both get a good walk so the dogs happy and my wife's happy (my wife knows a little exercise and i'm happily stimulated) At least that's what she tells me :whoo:

Pace of Pay = Quicker
Takes up less space in car boot, meaning me, my dad and uncle can all travel in one car, saving petrol money.
Can use the bags all year round!
Very handy as its harder to forget things, i.e electric trolley battery, or your wheels, you'll have one bag and your back, which you can't forget!
Preserves Course - as the trolley wheels damage the grass, especially when wet.

And a new bag would be lovely!! Thanks GM!

I started carrying a sun mountain 35 carry bag last Christmas

I only been playing about 4 years and not often enough work gets in the way

When I first started playing brought a set full set of clubs and bag and push trolley

After a while I upgraded to a tour type bag

Great but too big and difficult to get in boot of my car I have an estate car

I play on a fairly hilly course and found it hard to push the trolley

I'm a reasonably fit 56 with some back problems, play reasonble to a standard of tennis and enjoy hiking

Decided on carry bag because

Fed up with flapping about with trolley and bag in an out of car
Carry bag is easier and quicker to get out of car and on to course
Easier to walk on course with carry bag you don't need to walk so far
Can walk across greens carrying bag
Hands are free
Sun mountain 35 has very comfortable straps to carry and easy to lift on to back when playing
I have de-cluttered from trolley bag and am better for it
Easier to put back in car
Will be able to play on many courses over winter with trolley restrictions

Now prefer to carry and would recommend sun mountain carry bag even in this hot weather

Ease and speed of boot to tee.....get out on the course or practice ground quicker.....more time to warm up.

Looks good.....and good for excercise......I'm currently trying to lose weight and trying to carry whenever I can.....but a heavy bag gives me lower back pain from years of hockey....lighter bag would be ideal, especially when it rains it doesn't get heavier.

No need to traipse all over the place, just walk in a straight line to your ball.

Speeds up play.......

The big advantage for me is that I can take my clubs when we go away on holiday. Now, with a car full of toddler “stuff”, there’s not much room so it’s carry bag or nae bag. Then one day I can nip out for a quick 9 holes over nap time and be back in time for the afternoon family fun!

Importantly, a carry bag is a hybrid – it can operate as a half set pencil bag on a summer night; it can be stuffed full of gear and strapped onto my push trolley for those gruelling 36 hole comps – It is the best of all worlds.

And the best thing about a carry bag – the clickety clack as you meander the fairways.

With a carry bag it's quicker. You can walk straight to your ball in thick rough (happens often). Keeps you that little bit fitter. Also it fits in my locker and that means that I don't bring my clubs home to be kept in the kitchen wich annoyes my wife!!

The best way to psyche out an opponent before a shot is fired in anger is to saunter to the 1st tee with a carry bag slung effortlessly across the shoulders doing keepy uppies...

Perhaps with a Sun Mountain H2NO Ultra Lite bag I can do between the leg keepy uppies

steady on:eek:

For me there is 3 main advantages.

1. The hard man image.

Do you think if the Royal Marines were allowed to use a trolley to carry their rucksacks they would? No.
Men should be men on the course and have their clubs hanging off the shoulder.
You can let out your tears of pain in the car park on your own once you're off the course.

2. Don't have to worry about hedgehog wheels in the winter.

Hedgehog wheels look like someone forced a goth porcupine to have sex with a spinning frisbee whilst someone threw a bucket of black glue on them.
Then we're expected to pay £55 for the resulting babies!

3. Increased muscle mass attracts the ladies.

Let's face it, women love muscles. Using a carry bag all year round instead of a trolley will build up muscle in your shoulders and legs and thus attract the chicks.
You can thank me for that one when Megan Fox is washing your balls on the tee box at your club.

Good one for a Friday afternoon - you are bound to win with those witty comments

I'd prefer to carry than use a trolley as it's just easier getting around the course, especially when i'm carving it into knee length rough and mini jungles! I've got a titleist carry bag but tend not to use it as it infuriatingly clatters to the ground as soon as the wind gets up. When the course is boggy in winter (and often summer) my lovely blue and white bag tends to end up a lovely shade of brown.. It's also easy to head down to the course in the evening and race to the first tee beating that four ball you can see fiddling around trying to put their hillbillies up!

Simple/pure/light/easy/convenient/ lets be honest golf memberships are down and golf clubs are closing or are in financial difficulty. We all know that slow play is killing the game so if carrying speeds the round just a little and makes the carrier feel all the better then carrying will go towards making the game for some more attractive and that can only be good for golf......

Being as i only carry in Winter, and in Summer (only when i have a flat trolley battery), i guess i could become an all seasons carry convert, with one of these ultra light bags...Main advantage of carrying being that it will keep you fitter
