Summer Holiday in the Med - Recommendations please

In light of security alerts in Turkey (e.g today's bomb in Istanbul) we are reluctantly looking at alternatives to our usual holiday in Belek (we have been there 4 out of last 5 years)

We love Belek and are sad to be looking elsewhere, but HID understandably has her reservations.

Therefore looking for recommendations elsewhere around the Med

Heading out late June, all inclusive, family friendly with the option of golf (however that's not a deal breaker)

All recommendations welcome

I'd look at Cyprus, if you want to have a golf option.

Other than that guess its Spain or Portugal.

Having the same dilema as yourself mate, been a huge fan of turkey golf holidays for year but this year we will be looking elsewhere too unfortunately. we are looking at vale do lobo or la manga this year.
I wasn't a big fan of the costa deal sol golf holidays, they are good if your going with the boys to get bladdered but it's no comparison to Belek IMO.

Totally agree Simbo, we have been at the Voyage hotel each trip. Amazing value, kids club for little one and spa for HID. Will be tough to match it for value me thinks.
Focussing my search on hotel/resort facilities first...and if golf is available then its a bonus but not a requirement.
I actually almost booked Belek last weekend, HID asked me to hang off. I would think today's news will have put a nail in our Belek coffin for a while.

Its not easy to find a AI hotel/resort in europe, try looking at http://www.riu.com/en/home.jsp

I have been to Agadir 3 times at the Tikida Palace, Agadir, and there are 3/4 courses to play, great hotel and good value.

I had actually plannd to go to Belek as well this January, but then reconsidered, because the golf lesson package I had wanted to book with it was not available. Now I am kind of glad about it. I will be going to the Costa de la Luz in Spain in March instead (I've never been there before, though, so I cannot tell you if it is in any way comparable).

Crawfy. Fully understand 'each to their own', but I would not let it put me off. Probably a thread for a different discussion board, but altering your plans is exactly what the want you to do, i.e- disrupt your plans and lifestyles. It is very remote that anything would happen, statistically you would be more likely to have a crash on the way to the resort than a terrorist attack. At the moment, can anyone say anywhere is truly safe? Having been fortunate enough to play all over the med, I would really feel I was 'missing out', as I enjoy the Turkey hotels and golf courses every time I have been able to go there. As the famous quiz catchphrase goes though, "The decision is yours".

I don't know what your budget is Crawfy but thinking outside the box, South Africa is VERY cheap just now due to the Rand really struggling. Cape Town and the garden route are safe tourist areas with beaches and fantastic golf for silly money! Eating out is also very cheap. I'm looking at the area as a possibility for my main holiday this year :thup:

Courses near cape town worth a look:
Clovelley - really nice
King David - a bit rough and ready, but some lovely holes
Atlantic Beach - really testing if the wind's up, and has houses around some parts, but a great course.

Paarl, a little further away was a five and a half hour round and I shan't be going back there.

Algarve is great - specifically areound Val do Lobo but the golf isn't cheap and there aren't many inclusive deals.

You do realize that june is WINTER in Cape Town? Just had a look, there seem to be on average 16 days of rain in june, with temperatures typically between 8 and 18 degrees.

Probably not what the OP was looking for for a summer holiday with the family.


Portugal may be a great option for you. It's good value for money, and the algarve has great beaches and great landscape (I don't have to mention the great golf courses, do I?).
Temperatures seem to be a little lower than in Belek, though, probably because of the Atlantic.

Good point, the OP does mention family friendly so may be restricted to school holidays

Agreed. December isn't bad, either. It can get a little hot after that, but I guess I'd take it over the german winter any time if I had the choice...
