Hey guys,

I would like to ask you another suggestion for a trip. I would like to organize a golf trip last minute and I was thinking about two options:

- play Carnoustie one day, then go to the Aberdeen area and play Royal Aberdeen and Cruden Bay the next 2 days
- play Carnoustie one day, then drive to Inverness and play Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch the next two days

What would you suggest? If I don't make it to Castle Stuart would Dornoch alone be worth a drive up there? If you have other options I would be glad to hear them :)

Thanks for all the suggestions I will receive
Ciao

All I can say really is that both are great options and Dornoch is the best course of the four so it would probably be my choice but you aren't making a mistake either way

Now that is a tough question.

My order would be:-

1. Castle stuart - a must play.

2. Carnoustie

3. Cruden bay/ Royal Dornoch

4. Royal Aberdeen (that said, its hard to split Cruden, Dornoch and RA).

How did your Southport trip go?

Don't discount Tain, Brora, Golspie, Fortrose & Rosemarkie if you can't get in everywhere up north. Check out Graylyn Loomis website for trip planning probably worth a look.

Although it's not specifically where you were asking for , if you're flying into Edinburgh why not just play in East Lothian? A good mixture of 'name' courses and hidden gems. A lot less travelling and probably better weather. Less driving = more drinking and more golf...

I wrote up a trip here : http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?82533-Which-East-Lothian-upgrade/page3&highlight=east+lothian+golf

If it is really last minute (ie, a few days before), check the weather. It can vary enormously between west coast, east coast and highlands and can make all the difference to a trip.

All great courses and you will enjoy whichever permutation you select but just be aware it's a long drive up to Dornoch so you will need to factor that in.

I know it's hard, I have to do choices, and maybe do other courses next year! :) Between Dornoch, Cruden Bay and RA what would you choose?

My Southport trip will be the week after this Scotland trip, will keep you posted! ;)

I wanted to play Brora the same day as Dornoch but they say the have a competition, pitty!
Would you rate Tain, Golspie and Fortrose the same league as Brora or lower?

Thanks for your review pendodave, I have in fact asked Muirfield and North Berwick about availability but they were all full in the date I was there, so I thought going there without playing one of these two may not be worth the trip, what do you think?

I'd say that Brora is much the better day out of those four - nice as the other three are. If you can't do Castle Stuart, have you considered Dornoch and Nairn as an alternative pair?

But as someone has said, don't underestimate how far Dornoch is - about 320km north of carnoustie

one of the things to look out for up here for the end of July though to mid Aug is a lot of the clubs have a golf week. which petty much means there are closed during the week.
ours is the week after next then we have the home internationals, so Nairn is closed for almost two weeks apart from the week ends and there will be comps on those days.

I know Tains GW is the 1st week of Aug. played Brora last week in excellent condition, but there are a lot of livestock on there at the moment;)

I would play Carnoustie and Royal Aberdeen and around that area and make a separate trip to the highlands, the weather is still good right up to mid Oct.

Then you have
Royal Dornoch
Nairn
Moray Old
Castle Stuart
Fortrose
Tain
Brora
Golspie

To chose from,

Thanks for the Nairn suggestion, will check it! I know, DOrnoch would be a 3,5h drive, but hopefully it's worth it :)

Thanks Patrick, you are probably right, maybe better do a trip only for highlands. Beside Royal Aberdeen and Cruden Bay would you have any other "must play" suggestion in the area? Murcar maybe?
