Changed the grips on my clubs a few weeks ago, went from Golf Pride multi compound to the Golf Pride tour wrap and boy has my game gone down hill.

The 3 weeks prior to changing my grips I scored 42 / 38 and 40 points, the 3 weeks after the change, I've scored 31 / 29 and 27 points.

Also before the grip change, I hadnt pulled and iron shot for about 6 months and rarely pulled a shot with my Driver. Now I'm pulling everyting left, I've tried everything I know to cure it, but nothing is working.

When I got home from the range the other day, I compared a tour wrap grip to a multi compound I still have on my 3 iron. They both measured the same in diameter, even though the tour wrap did look a little wider at the top. But when I gripped the club, my left hand immediatley felt at home on the multi compound, compared to feeling like I'm strangling an alien, when I've got the tour wrap in my hand.

Now before I go out and blow loads of cash on another set of grips, am I just being stupid, or can something as small as a grip feeling a bit wider in your hand really make that much difference to your game.

wider/thicker grips in theory can quieten the hands down a tad possibly reducing 'active' flippy hands

grips are def a comfort and confidence thing, if it doesnt feel right it isnt! change one club first to save cash and the rest if it makes a difference

I have the tour wraps on my wedges, nice and sticky and changed from the GP M-21 grips. Don't feel thicker but they do feel softer and as I say, tacky.
For me there is a mental switch when you alter anything in your set-up that you have been used to. Comes back to a statement I made in another thread about cultural beliefs, it's hard to alter your mind set immediately and may just take time for your mind to adjust to the different feel.

I'm kind of thinking the tacky bit it stuffing me up to, I know it's meant to be the thing everyone should have "Tacky Grips" but if I'm honest, I'm not over keen

I'm a firm believer in grips making a huge difference. I can ONLY play with ribbed grips, anything else just doesn't feel secure in my hands and I end up gripping the club really tightly and becoming tense as it feels as if the thing is going to fly out of my hands.

Have you checked your grip pressure is the same with the new grips?

sorry harvey, didn't make myself clear. Just meant, don't grip too tightly with the new grips to compensate for them not feeling comfortable.

I think the analogy is "grip the club as if it is a tube of toothpaste without squeezing any out of the tube"
