Street Lights

A new one was put up outside our neighbours (across the road) and the light onto and into the front of their house is reduced by a screening panel fitted to the back of the lamp.

Some of the street lamps in our area have some kind of deflector fitted to the light unit. This can be positioned so that the direct light is not shining into peoples property. Have a word with your local council to see if this can be done.

Our street lights are new and very bright but they are off during 1 am and 6 am anyway. The street is pitch black during this time.

Had them installed round by us and as others have said it is a very focused light. There is one outside my twin daughters bedroom and it is darker now then when the orange light was there, but under and infront they are very bright.

Thats what i would assume would be the case, to be fair upstairs is no where near as bright! If any brighter than before! Its ground level, i think it may not be installed correctly or something.. have informed the council, so will see what happens.

It's purely a money saving venture under the guise of light pollution, certainly doesn't make the streets safer, more dark shadowy areas.

There's a street light outside our spare bedroom window. We tried normal curtains when we moved in but the light still came in. Ended out getting proper blackout curtains from Harveys. Not cheap but they do the job. We also got the council to put a filter on the street light to reflect the light back. Might be worth contacting Environmental Services

I was going to suggest blackout roman blinds - which are the best at keeping light out and will usually fit closer to the window. Looking at your picture showing an "L" shaped window, roman blinds will not be the best option. Maybe blackout lined curtains will be best, and just draw them as and when needed.

funny enough we just had them put in our lane. the old ones hardly ever worked and though its not been an issue over the summer with it being so light up here till late, but as the nights started drawing in its been pitch black along there and freaks the wife out when she has been out alone and walked home.

They came last week and put in brushed SS poles almost double the height of the last ones, they were switched on Monday.. its like daylight down there, our driveway is about 100 yards long and thats now lit up along with the whole lane.

They certainly are much, much brighter than the others, which are still there and look rather feeble alongside the new ones.

But is it also 100 yards wide?

Hope so after seeing the old man play :whoo:
