Playing in my last qualifier and started steadily then on the 6th I marked my ball after leaving a 2 footer for my par, cleaned the ball replaced it and then went to address the ball, now I don't know hope it happened, it was very windy, but as I went to address the ball, instead in the putter settling a little behind the ball I actually hit the ball causing to move forward a tiny bit. It might have been the wind unsettling me but whatever the cause, the par became a bogey and unsettled me and I had a quad bogey on the next.

As far a i know if it was not an intentional stroke , you replace it and add the pen , cant look it up at the min ,

one for the rules section .. it should be in rule 18 something or other id say

EDIT If not replaced its a 2 shot pen by the way

Just to clarify, if I had replaced the ball and holed out it would have still been a 6? The "stroke" moving the ball doesn't count as a shot, is that right.

Great story, you should save that for weddings!

:ears:

Better still did you replace it , :( then add the pen?

Yet another of those rules that make no sense. If I've moved it and it counts as a stroke then I should just play it from where it lies. If I hole it then what does it matter whether it was accidental or not, my club hit the ball and it went in.

I done this in our club champs the other week. 3rd hole had a 10ft putt for birdie and address the ball and stupidly hit the ball moving my putter behind it. Que walking off with a bogey 5. First and last time I will do that.

Fiver says it isn't :D

It doesn't count as a stroke though, it counts as a penalty. A stroke is intentional, this wasn't

New to the forum guys and girls.....anyway

To me it does seem counterintuitive. I would never have thought you would need to replace the ball if you had incurred a penalty, seems a little unnecessary.

As always though, there's bound to be a reason for the rule being the way it is? Cant think what that is mind you.
