I went to play a work mate at his course yesterday And on way to 1st tee there is a huge notice with club rules on it one of the rules was

4 ball stroke play is not allowed by either visitors or members at Anytime

Any member found misusing the course will be suspended from playing ? When I asked him what they ment by that it's a big no no to hit anymore than 1 ball while playing unless it's a provisional . A member was seen hitting 3 balls onto a green and was given a 4 month suspension during the summer .

Any others got quirky rules at their club

We have a notice in our changing room that says you can't hit anymore than 1 ball when playing unless it's a provisional too.
I asked the question to the pro and I said that when the course is quiet and no one is behind me I might fire another into the green if I didnt hit my 1st properly. He said to watch out as the club is hot on the rule and will be up infront of the committee if I'm spotted.
Total b****cks if you ask me. If it's quiet and your not holding anyone up and you pay your money for a membership then they should wind their necks in, your not hurting anyone in the process.
Just an observation not criticism obviously....!!!! :)

So are you not allowed to declare the first ball "unplayable" and play another? :D

Thankfully some clubs still go by RULES. I agree you should only hit 1 ball if ur out playing. If you want to hit loads of balls go to a RANGE!
Imagine if everyone wanted to hit 2+ balls towards a green, F*** we'd be out there all day

Yeah you can play another ball like that, it's just a ruling about practising on the course that's all.

Its not like you go around playing 3 balls per person per hole, for me if it's quiet and no ones around and I duff my mid iron to the green and fancy another hit then reload and hit another. If there's people coming up behind or your in a group then I wouldn't do it at all. I even highlighted this and was still told not to do it. Never mind.

No silly rules at our place, if I hit a bad shot and I want a reload thats what I will do, if there is no one behind me. I think thats what they would want us to do, they seem to want us to have a good time and get better at golf. Everything I have asked they have said yes too.

I think Fundy said to me once, "oh I hit 10 shots at this par 3 yeasterday to try and find the club I wanted to hit"

Now with that said if one is alowed to do what one wants to do then one needs to be careful. I dont think he or I would hit 10 shots onto a wet green that was going to be marked by the balls. If I wanted to use a bunker I would not pick one next to a green and so on.

If you look after your members and dont treat them like fools with your stupid rules for the sake of rules crap and your volvos and long socks (sorry getting carried away) then in the main they will look after your club. If I walk past a bunker that needs a rake I will do it, if I see litter or a fag butt I will pick it up as I want it to be nice for me.

I remember in the locker room at Shotts there was a notice and stapled to it was a lace and the notice read:

TO THE LOUSY BAR STEWARD WHO REMOVED A LACE FROM MY GOLF SHOE, PLEASE TAKE THE OTHER ONE....

AND TIE THEM TOGETHER AND HANG YOURSELF YOU THEIVING %$£&

I laughed.

Absolute nonsense. If there's no one else on the course I'll quite often hit 2 or 3 balls, where's the problem?

Obviously I don't hold anyone up but if it's quiet then the course is the ONLY place to practice. You'll get more out of playing 2 or 3 balls for 5 or 6 holes than you will pounding balls on the range.

I'd never do it if I was playing with others but a few holes on my own is good practice.

I totally agree. I'll sometimes play two balls, especially if I'm on my own and running into the back of the group in front and providing no-one has caught me up. It gives the group a chance to enjoy their game without being rushed and lets me play different shots for real rather than on a nice flat mat
