Storm Dennis

Nearly (I edited this!) half of the UK is Scotland and Wales..... About 10% of England is built on. That's a lot.
Another edit - England's population density (430/kmsq) is the 3rd highest of all countries in the world (behind South Korea and Bangladesh). Only higher are small islands and microstates like Singapore).
Chew on that with your "it's so arable" nonsense

Why thank you........

Haha my pleasure. Probably a bit ruder than intended, so apologies. I just think we have become normalised to the madness and I suspect, rather like climate change, are being railroaded by organisations that benefit from the profits but are immune from the consequences...

How long will it take before HS2 can’t run because it’s flooded somewhere.

HS2 won’t be affected by flooding in the Vale of Aylesbury flood plane......

Because it’s going to be on a 14 metre high embankment when it emerges from The Chiltern Hills (area of outstanding natural beauty)

On an aside they reckon the construction will use some 50000 litres of water per day, local rivers are already dry in the summer due to abstraction,

Bonkers it be ?

Possibly but it’s 400 miles of track ,and they are already looking for cost cutting .
So it will flood it’s just a matter of where and when.

Yes but most of the buildings are by the water courses.
The rivers and ports were the motorways years ago .
We just haven't looked after them when we stopped using them for industry transport.
Instead of using 106billion pounds for some suits to get to London faster.
We should spend it on the rivers to protect peoples homes and businesses.
But the thinking is the wrong way around in government imo.

10-15 mile stretch north of Aylesbury is as flat as a pancake and is pure flood plain.
Floods almost every year as far as the eye can see.....
The shockwave from the trains going past are going to create waves...hang on, there's a business opportunity - inland surfing
By 2040 I'll be a millionaire :ROFLMAO:

Del Boy scheme .
Maybe a wave theme park

In these days of sustainability large companies are instructing staff to reduce long distance travel and focus on video conferencing etc. for meetings. Rather than billions being spent on HS2 shouldn't commuter routes be upgraded as the priority?

This is correct we should make what we have got work properly first.

Indeed

Blimey that's a high tide in Scarborough
I saw this interesting fact:

More than half of the UK land area is farmland (
fields, orchards etc), just over a third might be termed natural or semi-natural (moors, heathland, natural grassland etc), a little under 6% is built on (roads, buildings, airports, quarries etc) and 2.5% is green urban (parks, gardens, golf courses, sports pitches etc).9 Nov 2017
Indeed it is (if you accept Pendodave's modification). And that is part of the problem....

Weatherman got it wrong I think . Said it was all day here.
We could have played today ??
Maybe it’s just late.

Plenty of places getting it bad with more to come. River levels are still rising.

No golf for me tomorrow, the beach is all over the road and the same is likely to happen again at tomorrows high tide.

It's been pretty wild down here all day
Rain has been on and off but when it's rained it's come down hard.
Supposed to keep going all night and well into tomorrow
Not a day for being outside around here.
