Because it’s going to be on a 14 metre high embankment when it emerges from The Chiltern Hills (area of outstanding natural beauty)
On an aside they reckon the construction will use some 50000 litres of water per day, local rivers are already dry in the summer due to abstraction,

Possibly but it’s 400 miles of track ,and they are already looking for cost cutting .

In these days of sustainability large companies are instructing staff to reduce long distance travel and focus on video conferencing etc. for meetings. Rather than billions being spent on HS2 shouldn't commuter routes be upgraded as the priority?

Plenty of places getting it bad with more to come. River levels are still rising.
