Well i thought we had done everything right , we bought a cat from a womwn who said she had to ger her a new home as one of her daughters was autistic and "loving" the cat a little too much and was scared of hurting her . We collected her from her house saw where she lived , how she was etc.
On collection she stated she was 1 , had all the documentation but had just misplaced it and would forward when found (slight alarm here but seemed ok ) .
Anyway wife said ok . We took her to the vets yesterday just for a check over and got the chipping companys details , phoned said company turns out cat was lost\stoled 3weeks ago  .Now we obviously will return the cat but it winds me up as to how can this woman think she could have got away with this i do not know , not sure as to our next steps but i think or rarther am sure we need to involve the police in this to see if she is indeed doing this regularly .

While i was typing this the wife rang to tell me a friend has duginto a local website with pets for sale and it seems she is a serial seller !!!
This looks to be heading downhill for her .
One positive a family will be getting their beloved pet back .

Nightmare, on the positive some family will be reunited with their beloved kitty so be happy with that, and of course the crook should get her comeuppance .
Are you going to return it yourself?

Definately i want to make sure it is safely returned .
Not even bothered about the money we paid out ,as long as i could stop this woman repeating this that will be ok for me .

RSPCA might be interested as well as the Feds .

At least you found out before thou became too attached

It also shows the importance of getting your pet chipped.

What a horrible individual. I hope she gets her comeuppance.

Yes i will inform the RSPCA as well , with a bit of digging it seems she has a history of pets needing "rehoming" rarther frequently .
Thank god this cat was chipped and at least we can return her .

What a bizarre case. I knew that some breeds of dogs get stolen to be sold, but didn't know it happened with cats, didn't think they were worth much in monetary terms. How much did you pay for it?

Some of the pedigree breeds can be very expensive.
British Blues for example can sell for hundreds of pounds.

Sorry for the delay replying but we have been a little busy trying to sort this out , she is a British blue and she did indeed cost the wife a couple of hundred pounds . However the cost is not the issue i believe its the fact that someone thinks its ok to steal someones pet and resell it as theirs .

take the story to the press, will get your £200 quid back and some and expose this nasty crook woman for what she is. Stealing animals is heartless and a lot different to nicking goods like a tv or phone, emotional attachments are very strong with pets usually. Be nice to see the real owners reaction too when the cat is returned.

We have gone to both the police and the RSPCA , police dont seem to be botherd that much but they took all the details so lets see i appreciate they are busy but it is theft and fraud so lets see.The RSPCA were straight on it , wanted all the stuff off the wifes phone and anything else we can get for them .
Strange thing is , the chipping company contacted the "owners " friday but are still waiting to see what they want to do , they dont seem in a rush to get their pet back . Very strange .

Being that time of year they may be away, so perhaps give them a little time:)

Our Esmie is a rescue cat, we got her from a cattery type place in Boldon near Sunderland.
Esmie was chipped when she was found but the original owners never answered calls or replied to voice mail messages. Stranger still the original owners lived in Manchester.

If you are talking about the price of some breeds, in cats the American Rag Doll, if it has the right attributes can be worth a £750 and up.

On Dogs, was talking to a women who was getting a French Bulldog it's first shots, it was a blue and she was telling me and wor lass that the puppy a male, had been bought by a women in the USA and it was flying first class to America, the women had paid £6,000 quid for the dog because it had the rare blue gene, or something like that, but £6,000 I mean more money than sense.
