In view of the weather our annual post-Xmas match at Craigielaw was well and truly cancelled yesterday. So what d'you do? Get onto the golf simulator for a few beers and a bit of banter in the warmth with your mates instead.

This is "the Clubhouse" at Fountainbridge in Edinburgh and the first time we'd tried it. Excellent facility and to be recommended.

We ended up playing Pebble Beach and in our 3-ball we managed to get to the 14th tee in our two hour slot before we had to vacate our bay. We could have done with 3 hours but there wasn't space as everyone obviously had the same idea given the icy conditions yesterday.

I was well impressed with accuracy of our virtual shots, particularly the putting. If you hit the putting line on the screen at the correct weight then it went in. We still had to allow 10 feet gimmies though.

It took me a while to get used to the chipping and pitching. I started with a 9, then an 8 and followed that up later on with an 18 on one hole..... unfortunately there's no option allowing you to pick up your ball!

Shots from the rough are played from a wee hairy patch of synthetic grass and sand shots from a similar sand coloured patch. These are obviously nothing like the real thing so took me a while to get used to but it added a bit of variety.

Great fun and the two hours cost about £36 between the 3 of us so not bad value either. It was nice to be plied with beers every couple of holes too. Apparently they do memberships and even have a winter league!

That looks spot on J_F,could be worth a visit next time we're in the capital, had to put up with getting stuffed from my youngest at Sawgrass on the Wii (again).

We have a citigolf in Belfast sounds like the same thing. I know of a guy selling one for 5k also imagine if you had the room for it!
Tiger 09 has been getting a bashing here at home too.
