Staycation at home, otherwise domestic holiday. In my book. We are ‘domesticating’ in Norfolk in a few weeks and ‘staycaing’ at the end of the holidays.

The only place I've ever used the term 'staycation' is on here for a bit of fun. After someone said it irritated them.
If people want to call a holiday a staycation, its not really worth worrying about.
The word is a recent phenomenon to me. I've taken plenty of holidays in the UK, as a kid and as an adult, and we would never use that word. I still would not now. A holiday in the UK is a holiday still. It seems to be a recent media creation, in my head.
I’m not sure why anyone this side of the Atlantic would want to use a variation of the word vacation. I’m either on holiday or I’m not. If someone wants to know where I’m going, I’ll tell them.

Never had a vacation in my life so likewise a staycation. Now holidays and holidays at home I have had plenty.
