Went to the “Radio 2 Festival in a day”, yesterday and among the acts were Status Quo.

Been a Quo fan since Down Down and PaperPlane came out in the early 70’s, seen them 6 or 7 times over the years, and was gutted when Rick Parfitt passed away nearly 3 years ago.

I reckon most people thought that that was the end of Quo.

Fast forward to yesterday and what a storming set, Richie Malone the new rhythm guitarist has revitalised the entire band, that old energy is back.

Easily the best band on the day although the Westlife legions might disagree :).

Any other bands that have had a new lease of life?
 
Saw excerpts of them on TV from Hyde Park and have heard bits from the new album and they have a slightly different sound without good old Rick and there is definitely a renewed energy about them. Think I'll keep an eye out for tickets
 
Absolutely love the Quo,very sad when Rick passed.But it sounds like Francis has got the bit between his teeth again and giving it his all.as Homer said I will be looking for tickets at a do near me.
 
You mean they have found someone else who can play the old two chords they use in their songs? :D
 
I'm still waiting for the full re-birth of A Flock of Seagulls. Could be waiting a while.

Ive seen them a lot over the years, but not since the excellent Frantic Four reunion gigs in 2013 & 14 and subsequent acoustic ones, and must admit that when Rick died i thought it was appropriate for them to call it a day (even though Malone by then was already in the band).

Interesting how well they went down yesterday, and i have read good reviews of the new album Backbone, so may well buy it.

As they did as special guests of Lynyrd Skynyrd on their farewell tour.

But as good as Richie Malone's playing is, they are struggling to adequately replace Rick in the vocal department. Great with the Rossi vocal songs though.
 
I first saw them way back about 1969, they were headlining a 3 band gig in Folkestone, they came on late at about 11pm and vowed to still do their full gig which they didn't manage as police with dogs turned the power off at midnight, as all music had to stop then, and we were all shepherded out. I saw them return to the same venue about 40 yeas later and a couple of times since and they were fabulous!
 
But if I go for it and we get tickets how will I know so far ahead of time if I'm able to go or not....you know, I might book a holiday or something:unsure:

Went thinking I would not enjoy the lineup, apart from WetLife it was a great day out, newborn Quo were brilliant as were the rest. Amazing how sunshine and beer changes your outlook.

Love the jazzed up Chrissie Hind set the night before.
