The last few rounds I've played in towards the last 9 nines holes i've lost all interest in the game.I've been playing well(from 19 to 10 since october).I'm finding the whole aspect of the game from getting ready to playing a chore. Sometimes it feels like I'm out there just for the sake of it.Have started to think about packing it in and finding something else to do.I didnt really want cut how much I play(3 times a week) because I feel I need to play to maintain my game. Dont think I'm a natural who can pick a club and hit at will

It isn't like you are making a living out of it. Take a break, take some time out. If you miss it, you'll be back. If not, then don't bother. Golf is meant to be fun.

Who do you play with and what sort of speed do they play ?,

I am only asking because I have my own buisness so have to fit golf in when I can, this means with the exception of comps I tend to play a lot on my own, it has gotten to the stange where I get really bored playing with other people all that waiting and pretending to care where they hit it.

I used to play alot and got bored. I ended up giving the game up as a result.
I've now come back to it, but don't play nearly as much as I used to. Once or twice a week with the odd weekend off if I'm starting to get the wanderlust.

Don't spoil your enjoyment because of overkill.

It happens. It happended to me with yacht racing. Every 6 or 7 years I'd take a break of a year. I'd inevertibly go back to it, but what with it being my work and pleasure for alot of the thirty years, it eventually became chore.

It's been at least 2 years this time around, and despite the odd urge, I can take it or leave it.

But I now have the golf. How long before I get to that stage with the golf, who knows. But I'm sure that it will happen at some stage in the future.

As others have said. It's supposed to be fun. If it ain't, then either find a a way of making it fun or find something else. It's not the end of the world.

Whatever you decide to do. Just enjoy.

Lifes too short.

Cut down on the number of times you play.
I played yesterday, first time since the Ascot day on 9th June. Hadn't even looked at my clubs in between let alone cleaned them!
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm playing in the Trilby Tour event on 12th July and am not planning on picking up a club before then either.
Bit of fishing and maybe some browsing You Porn should see me right
;)

I have just started to play again after a break of a few weeks, it was well worth it. I was like yourself felt i was playing because i was expected to, now i am enjoying my golf again and looking forward to being out on the course.

Playing a midweek stablefrod 2morrow with a couple mates.Going to see how it goes. Was thinking about taking a break from the game for a month or two . My only concerns about taking the break is that it will put my game back a bit and if I decide to carry on playing after it will hack me off that I cant play aswell as I was. Bit of a catch 22 for me

A two month break from golf will just see your short game a little "ring rusty" but you will get it back after a while.
One thing I can guarantee is when you stand on the first tee you will bosh one straight down the middle because all the negative thoughts would have been washed away.
Trust me
;)

stop shouting

Sorry about that, (mansell)but golf should be about enjoying the moment, like when youve hit a good drive and just with a little bit of wind behind you its turned into something altogether more fabulous, and when you set on that walk to reach your ball, there it is centre fairway a mere 110 yards to the pin on a par 4,this is it,this is the moment, you may have parred this hole before, but today your gonna birdie it ,and you do..thats why we play golf

Can't understand it myself. I'm a golfaholic and need a regular (hourly) fix. Even if I play a few rounds by myself I never get tired of trying different shots, enjoying the ones down the middle and the frustration when it goes wrong. Even if I've hacked it in a medal and come stone cold last I'm always a little sad when we finish the 18th. Probably more a case of me being a saddo!

In the same boat this year, can't find my game and handicap is going up and up, eleven 0.1's from twelve cards returned.
Have just played 2 out of 4 of four club champs rounds this week (Sun, Tue) and I am extremely close to bailing out of rds 3 and 4 (Thu/Sat) as I have a team match on Sunday as well which I'm stuck with.
Fortunately the weather is great this week so the fresh air and exercise side of it is good. I'm not that bothered about the poor golf but it just makes me less enthusiastic. Yesterday got to 9th tee at +3, managed to make a treble bogey 6 out of nothing - utter hacking really and that was basically game over, interest went and so did the score. 41/40 off a 4 (now 5) handicap does not inspire.

Golfing apathy has set in presently. Only takes one good score to get enthusiasm going again of course.

I think the biggest problem is playing the same course over and over. If I could get to play some new tracks that would be good.
