I've been invited to play in a friendly competition and could do with swatting up on Stableford beforehand. Have had it all explained to me but I've forgotten it:o No official handicap as yet so I will be playing off one of 36 as a beginner. Am I right in that I get two extra shots a hole. So if I play like I did on Saturday and do a par 5 in 7 and a par 4 in 6 I get 3 points for both of those holes. Or have I remembered it completely wrong:rolleyes:

2 points for a net par.
1 for net bogey and 3 for net birdie and so on.

You will indeed get 2 extra shots per hole, so use them well and you can make some big points.

Good luck

Thank you and thank you for the good luck.:)

Thought i'd remembered it wrong.

36 handicap = 2 shots per hole
Scoring for SF = nett score (after you subtract the 2 shots

Bogey = 1pt, 8 on a par 5 becomes a nett bogey (6) 1 pt

Par = 2pts, ie 7 on a par 5 = nett par (5)= 2 pts

Birdie = 3pts 6 on the par 5 = nett birdie (4), 3pts

eagle = 4pts 5 on par 5 =nett eagle (3) , 4pts

Hope this covers it for you enjoy

EDIT The Jester has already beaten me to it

You would get 2 points for your 7 and 6 as they are nett pars.
Score a 5 on par 5 nett 3 equals 4 points
Score a 6 on par 5 nett 4 equals 3 points
Score a 7 on par 5 nett 5 equals 2 points
Score a 8 on par 5 nett 6 equals 1 points

If in doubt just record your gross score and sort out in clubhouse.

Enjoy!

Thanks everyone:) Looking at my scorecard for my second full 18 on Saturday I got quite a few pars and one birdie:) Hopefully I can report back afterwards some good scores but if not I'll still have enjoyed myself.

Just thought of another question. Hubby will be getting his cards marked shortly so how does it work on handicaps under 36. He's assuming his first handicap could be between 24 - 26.

Use the stroke index to work it out
• 36 handicap = two shots per hole
• 18 handicap = one shot per hole
• 10 handicap = one shot per hole on those marked stroke index 1 to 10 (no shots on holes with SI 11 to 18)
• 24 handicap = one shot per hole and a second shot on holes with SI 1 to 6 (so it totals 24 shots)
• 26 handicap = one shot per hole and a second shot on holes with SI 1 to 8 (so it totals 26 shots)
Etc, etc
