I have just installed the Demo version (yes SS2, I will actually be buying it soon! I promise)
From this weekends golf I have found that I am indeed a hacker when it comes to birdie attempts and recent putting form.
The stats are on my home pc but from memory (bear with me!)
Fairways hit 68%
Birdie conversions 10% which is apparently very very bad. I had 10 birdie putts and made none of them
Putts 33 for 17 holes (other hole was a putt in from off the green)
Holes where I hit GIR 2.1 putts and where I missed GIR 1.5 putts.

Stats are always work in progress and one round doesnt tell the big story, looking at those stats it would seem that I hadnt played very well (it was very blustery), I ended up +6 gross and reasonably happy with it considering the amount of putts.
One thing I did notice which is true is that when I miss the fairway/green It tends to be to the left almost always.
Anyone else recently started tracking their stats again?

I don't need to record the stats to know that most of my drives will miss the fairway right and most of my shots to the green will miss left ;)

It's a work in progress :)

Due to our PC having a total existence failure early this year, I lost all last year's stats. Got a restart code from SS2 (cheers Andy) and started again.
Birdie conversions are better than handicap but everything else is around 11/12 handicap standard. Bearing in mind the ground conditions I'm reasonably happy.
Friday gave me 7/12 fairways, 7/18 GIR, 0% birdies (missed all 7) and scrambling was 12 handicap (can't remember the exact stat). Oh and 30 putts.

You see, to me 30 putts is fine for a mid to high single figure handicap golfer. I would expect around that, but 33 on 17 holes... dear me!
Years ago when I had my 5 lessons or so, the teaching pro said to me not to worry about birdies, they will come. If you hit the green ten times, you wont make all of them most of the time but will make some of them all of the time. Yesterday all of my ten birdie putts were inside 20 feet, didnt nail one of them but ironically holed out over a 12 foot putt from off the green over a swail and never looked like going anywhere else. Golf eh? :)

I've just recently started using the GolfShot app which also collects your stats.
I can tell you that from 3 rounds this year, my
Driving accuracy is 51%
GIR is 63%
Scrambling is 10%
Putting ave is 1.96 p/hole

What I do with this info is another thing altogether. All I know is I shot under my h/c all three rounds.

I find stats too depressing. I quite often shoot way under my handicap with FW 0, GIR 0. It just tells me my whole game is pants, and I should stick to what I am good at, which is pitch and putt.

Apparently, if you shoot under 95, if you multiply your GIR by two, and deduct from 95, you will be within 2 shots of your actual score. I should therefore be shooting 95 every time.

At my level, I'm not sure that stats are really important. I know that I need to hit more fairways, more greens, chip, pitch and putt better and that I've got to keep working on all those areas.

It will help you distinguish the areas needing the most work, you could shank one a week which would be more memorable than missing short left on every approach shot to par 3's. this is where the software comes in handy, it is a fact driven piece rather than feeling.

For better players than me, I can see the point. And for Pro's, every little edge can make the difference but it's not for someone like me.

My game just isn't consistent enough to warrant that kind of time and analysis.

Sadly. :o

It is literally a minute after each round, in fact I did sundays round that evening from memory, I didnt even need to print out the sheet to take with me. I dont bother with driving distances etc though.

Brendy,
My coach went through my stats with me and told me to ignore number of putts per round.
As far as he's concerned the better I play the more putts I'll take as I keep hitting greens.
More important is:
a, putts per GIR, and,
b, putts per green not hit in regulation.

If a, is over 2 you need to work on getting long putts closer and nailing those 2nd putts.

If you are high on b,(up near 2 per hole) then you need to work on either the chipping/short game to get closer and give yourself more chances at rescues. Or work on nailing shorter putts. The latter being a problem for me over the years.

So like you say, it is good for highlighting problem areas if you look just a little deeper.

I've always been an advocate of SS2 and it really helps highlight problem areas which I can e-mail to my pro and we can talk about at my lessons and look for a fix. Of course it can give a distorted picture and if you miss a lot of GIR but chip close the putts will look great as only those on the putting surface count.

On the plus side it is great for looking at patterns particularly on certain bogey holes. Do you always miss a particular fairway or green but do you always miss it on the same side. Perhaps the shape of the tee or the contour of the hole is putting your alignment out. Something you can look at next time out.

You only get out what you put in and so if you lie then you'll never see the true patterns. As for the OP (in my opinion) there is nothing much wrong with the big dog and its giving him chances to hit greens a lot easier from the short stuff but he can't find a way to get it in the hole. At least he can see where the problem is now
