I don't get to see good players on the course, just duffers. Yesterday the teaching Pro asked if he could hit my '07 10.5* reg Burner, the first two were admirable shots, slight right movement, then he turned toward me and said there was something wrong with the shaft, that it was slow. I told him that the day before I was hitting in front of a machine and that the fitter told me I needed a lower kick point, he made a guttural noise and teed up again. The next two shots were the most amazing balls I have ever seen, high with incredible carry and straight to the exact same spot on the left side of the range. He said that those were 10.5 shots and he guessed I would be able to work with the shaft!!!!!! What the hell was that all about!
Reading on the net about kickpoints made it seem like those are way too nuanced for a recreational player to worry about, after all the "point" only moves within a range of a few inches anyway. But what would make a shaft "slow"? I asked him if he meant it was stiffer than it should be, he said no and changed the subject.
Argg, all the shaft specs require years if experience to appreciate and the variation in production tolerances means it is all a crap shoot anyway. How could anyone but a touring Pro swing a club and know if the shaft is a problem or not?

I am shaft depressed.
:D

the 'golf clubs' in his sig links to a US site but it's been there all along and the guy doesn't make an issue of it and is a contributor. don't have a problem with that.

as to the OP, I had the kickpoint differences demonstrated at a fitters once with me doing the hitting. the difference between high and low is what, 1.5 in.? made a big difference in the results I achieved with clubs of otherwise exactly the same spec; a high kickpoint was the worst for me, a mid the best.

I'm going to test the shaft issue, I'm waiting on a fitting session with SnakeEyes.

That explains it, I don't have sigs turned on. I don't have an issue with guys having a link in their sig, you don't have to click onit, and if the post is about something different, so what.

I would have thought getting the correct kick point was more important than getting the right loft. I don't think it is going to be something you can guess for yourself though through looking at figures in a manufacturers chart, you really need an LM and a few shafts to try.

To get back on track I don't think many recreational players could tell the difference between the kick points although most would see/feel a difference between regular and stiff flex.

As for the website issue, I have a long history with obvious spammers and my contempt. I don't like it as I see it as by-passing the advertising costs others pay for a qucik in. There are some on here (Bob Mc and Hapless) who have gone into business but have told the forum upfront about their ventures and given fair warning. They also contributed from day one without any personal plugs. That I feel is the difference, being upfront and honest (you have been told and can make the decision) rather than have some cheap and usually fake clubs thrust on you either from a link in the signature or worse still from a link in a post.

I'm sure I'll get slated for my opinion (whats new) but thats the way I feel. If you do have a valid business and want to advertise go through the normal advertising channels or at least pay your dues here first.
