is anyone on here interested or into shooting?i absolutely love it,whether it's the clays, pheasants or rabbits.

i don't do it as much as i'd like to but the inlaws run an estate over in mull so i manage to do some when i'm across there.usually with my last job i'd not manage to do it that much but i knew i was getting 3 days shooting so we headed down to cluney clays before christmas and had a good days practise to get ready for the 3 days shooting in january.

the first day was at the start of january and it was a rough day,we bagged 16 birds between 6 guns.on saturday there we had a driven day and we were crap.there were plenty birds and plenty shots but only 17 birds bagged between 7 guns and i only managed 1 pheasant and missed plenty.i was raging as i'm usually a dab hand with the shotgun.

so on sunday i went out and had a practise with the clays ot get back upto scratch.yesterday we went out for another rough day and this time there were 4 of us and we bagged 17 with about 5 runners.once i got in the groove i was nailing pretty much every bird that came my way.

another great weekend enjoyed over in mull and i can't wait for the season to come again.

I'm not too sure how it's called 'sporting'. You've got dogs and a bloody great shotgun and all the birds can do is fly away. Their chances of escape are fairly slim.

It'd be more sporting if you gave the 'game' firearms of some description - at least they could fire back.

it's sporting because they've got us halfwits shooting at them.......

i'm guessing you's aren't into it then

I just think that if you're going to use the words 'sporting' and 'game' then it means that both sides have an equal chance. I fear that one side is heavily biased in this contest! That is neither sporting or game.

What you partake in is the aerial equivalent of badger baiting.

Snelly will be along soon, he's into killing stuff.

Do you eat them after you shoot them ??

I had a pheasant in a country pub once, it tasted nice but was full of shot, played havoc with my fillings :(

i use to but not anymore,i bring them back for other people though.

Must be something about us Palace fans but I would rather see the birds alive and happy in the wild.

Why not turn the gun around beore you shoot? That would make it more sporting IMO........

have never tried it but doesnt mean i dont like it. i understand what its about and would love to try it. my family are farmers and some used to rear pheasants for the estates.

They're not wild. They are bred for 'sport'. In the case of pheasants without shooting they wouldn't exist.

Different argument for birds like grouse.

I'm not defending it, I'm not calling it sport, but the industry supports the birds and the birds support the industry.

no it isnt, the birds are breeded for the sport (meal) badger baiting is totally different which i DONT condone. i drink goats milk, cows milk, eat lamb, beef, chicken. if your a veggie thats your choice but i know where my food comes from and will happily eat it. if i got to shoot it as well bonus

.

What?? Can you read that again and tell me that you meant to write that?? Are you saying that someone created them in a lab with the sole purpose of shooting them?? If you are then Darwin's theory goes right out of the window.

The shooting of any defenceless animal is poor form. The only time an animal should be shot is if it's in pain and can't be saved.

I'll rephrase. They are not native to the UK. They only exist and are prevalent in such numbers to be shot at. Without shooting (sport) they would not exist .... in the UK. They are the friesian cow of the bird world.

I don't go shooting, probably would if I had the opportunity. If you are vegetarian and don't wear leather shoes then I respect your view point. If not get off your high horse.
