Speed awareness course today!

Speed doesn't kill, a lack of awareness by to many road users (including me a times) is what kills. Route familiarity doesn't help either, how many times have you got home and thought "I don't remember any of that drive home today!"?

I hear what you say, (and the other part of the line is that "it's the deceleration that does it"); but unfortunately speed kills those who are stationary when hit by others at speed. Which is why the awareness courses focus on what happens when you hit someone who accidentally steps back into the road (toddlers, someone tripping) at 35mph, compared to at 25mph.
At my course they said you can't determine when someone steps out in front of you, and it probably isn't your fault but the consequences to you and your family if you hit them at 35 compared to 25 are worlds apart. Firstly they will survive the latter, and the likelihood of you going to prison is much less because you were under the speed limit too.
Just seemed eminently sensible advice.
