Speed awareness course today!

Really looking forward to it.
Choices were £100.00 fine and 3 points or the above.
4 hours of bliss.

So you had no financial penalty of points by taking the 4 hour course?

I hope I get something like that, just awaiting a response from Merseyside after being caught doing 41mph coming out of the tunnel.

How much over were you and in what zone, pm if necessary :smirk:

Was doing 40 in a 30. Given the choice of £100.00 fine and 3 points or the course for £85.00.
I thought the fine would be £60.00 and as I have a clean licence was going to take that and the points, but when I was informed it was £100.00 it was a no brainer really.
4 hours spent in a classroom from 12.30 today. Just as well they give you a couple of fag breaks

I got done 36mph on the promenade recently..

I paid the £100 and took the 3 points..

I've heard about those speed awareness courses and they sound like my worse nightmare. Some H+S official patronizing and pontificating about the evils of driving recklessly....

HID went on one last year and said it was not as bad as she thought it would be...There is some horrific video clips etc to try hammer home the effects of speeding.

I went on one last year expecting the same and was pleasantly surprised, I found it very interesting.........probably depends on the guy leading the course.

I would advise going with an open mind I bet a few of the facts scare you!

My uncle teaches it

It is very interesting. Sat in on one and it's very much an eye opener

Hmm, 3 points and £15 being the variable, will have to think about this if I get offered the option, points constantly come & go off my licence so not a big deal for me so its the £15 or 4hrs in a classroom to ponder :mmm:

From the comments above it sounds like it should be something people see before they actually start driving rather than after they've been caught speeding.

I heard the same and the crash test dummy's without a seat belt was a bit of an eye opener apparently

I was going to do the course (36mph in a 30mph) but forgot to post the letter in time :o ... paid my £100 and had 3 points - total pain in the arse as you have to write it down every time you renew your car insurance (and probably puts the premium up).

don't you have to tell insurance companies you've been done speeding and been on the course anyway? I didn't think it really did you any favours going on the course.

You are under no obligation to tell insurance companies you have been on an awareness course
