thinking of a LED strip light that is flush with the ceiling. Would be putting a new ceiling in the extension

Was speaking to my sparky. He has never done one in the ceiling and thought it is too fiddly.. where do you put the transformer etc. what happens if a few LEDs die ..

Any sparkys with experience who can advice

It's doable but fiddly I'd imagine. Transformer can go above the ceiling - ideally as long as it's accessible.

You might need to double board the ceiling for fire protection, but if I was doing it..

Fix mini trunking (without the cover) that would accommodate the LED strip.
Board over the ceiling to finish the ceiling level with the face edge of the trunking, then skim.
Install LED strip into the mini trunking.

That way, if you have an issue with the LED's, you can pull them out of the trunking and replace without damaging the ceiling.

The strips themselves are not too expensive… but I wonder how it will work together
Right now and may be available. But in a couple of years time.....who knows. I have seen lots of niche lighting create a problem a little way down the road when replacements aren't available.
