Southampton Sack Adkins!

It's not that crazy when you look at the bigger picture.

Southampton basically threw money around and bought their way out of League One and The Championship. The promotions weren't anything special and even then he almost messed last season up. He then spent £30m in the summer, which is more than most clubs. Obviously the owners have big money and haven't been impressed with him and don't trust him to spend anymore money.

Football is a joke at times but theres logic involved here.

This is the way these foreign owners seem to work these days! On skysports news the new guy doesn't speak English, got sacked from his last job in Spain, never worked the premiership and yet he is the long terms solution! How about stability and staying in the premiership should be the first ambition and this decision cannot help that.

Also on SSN is that Adkins has the highest win percentage since pre war of all Soton managers.

Crazy decision, the man was doing a good job, played good stuff and never whinged about refs etc.

Replaced with a fud who has had 1 job and got punted from that as his side were rock bottom.

Money is ruining the game and it is becoming less and less attractive and losing touch with the working man and has been going that way since the start of the Premiership and the Champions League.

I live in hope the the Premiership eventually collapses and likewise the Champions league.

Couldn't agree more and I say that as a Chelsea fan (in case it wasn't obvious from the name) & season ticket holder who was there on Wednesday night. There was no doubt who was the better team and who played the better football, and it wasn't the home team.

The Saints fans have my sympathy.

the problem seems to be that clubs think they need a character to be manager, the owner like having a yes man to do his biding and if he has a funny accent all the better,we have a managers merry go round were manager A leaves his club the other clubs think he is better than our bloke so they sack him, then club A poach another manager who in turn poach another and so it goes, what always strikes me a funny if you have a grievance against the owner DONT go to the games, the loss of revenue will soon hurt, was it the owner of newcastle united who said they could hold up as many placards as they liked in the ground at least they had bought a ticket so fool them

Like Golfsaint I am utterly devastated and bemused by this decision. Nigel is a fantastic young English manager, whichever club gets him has a real asset on their hands and I have no doubts one day in the not too distant future he will take on the England job.
Just when things were starting to look up for us something comes along and kicks you squarely in the teeth. I thought our previous chairman was as bonkers as it was possible to be but it seems I was wrong.
A shameful way to treat a man who has won back to back promotions, for the first time in my life I am actually embarrassed to be a Saints fan tonight.

Fergie wouldnt be Man U manager after 3 years with the current mindset!

sums it up really. Money and expectancy have ruined football

Yep totally. Fans don't get a say anymore, at least not in the higher divisions, as what they bring into the club money wise is quite small in comparison to the tv companies, sponsors, corporate boxes etc.
I've supported Saints for over 35 years through thick and lots of thin, but today may have been the straw that broke the camels back for me, us supporters just don't matter anymore, so I might take my season ticket money next season and put it into a local non-league side. Or buy some new clubs...

Even back then 3 years was your lot Fergie saved by the skin of his teeth and a mark Robbins half volley at forest in the fac or it wouldn't of happened! OMG perish that thought!

If he like living on the coast he should come to Blackpool, mind you he would have to work with a tightfisted chairman, a dilapidated training ground, and a pitch better suited to growing potatoes at the moment. We do have some decent footballers though.

You haven't got a phone that works though, according to the press. Give us our Ince back.

Agreed, unfathomable decision to sack Adkins. 2 promotions and above the bottom 3 in January, what more could a newly promoted club want. Seems a cracking fella, also.

If it does, will you let my team join the Scottish leagues?

I agree there must be a bigger picture here to make sence of this ..

Logic involved ? i wonder .... guy's team was bottom of league when he got sacked in Spain , has no english and cant communicate with players... ? Current manager had team going the right way & playing better ... hard to see the logic in that..

Anyhow bring on Monday night hopefuly they will still be in shock , but good luck to the saints fans AFTER Monday

Madness from the board. They are now on the Blackburn slide I believe.

I can't help thinking this new unknown has come in to be the chairman's puppet, where the chairman is the real team selector. After all, why sack the most popular manager in Saints history and replace with someone worse?
