Well inside budget, has very good sound. And also has the added benefit of remote learning, so you can just use your TV remote to control it.
Got one for my inlaws and its impressive for its price.

Personally, I prefer speakers around the room. Onkyo amp and Dali speakers, no wireless nonsense for me.

you sir have good taste

sound bars are OK for what they do, give a bit more than the flat screen TV speakers but they are no match for a 5.1 system, even the cheapest speaker amp setup will blow a soundbar out of the water. Its horses for courses so to speak, as in everything in this world you get what you pay for.

My mate bought a Yamaha soundbar from RS and was highly impressed with it, that is until he came round and heard my AV setup playing a DTS demo disc.

Currently got Zensor 5 as the front channels but really fancying the Ikon 6 to replace them. Keep the Zensor 2 at the rear though as I love them.

Soundbars are an ideal option for those juat wanting to upgrade from LED TV sound. Yet to encounter a TV with decent sound built in.
The Yamaha YS and YAS range give very good quality at a very good price point.

I think I shall pop to my local Richer Sounds in Guildford. Still though thinking a might just get a new amp (as my old one is knackered) and reposition my speakers - I'm guessing that most/all amps will take an input from a TV

yes but not everyone wants cables, clutter and speakers on their expensive wooden floors just so they can hear a bullet whizz past.

Go dali sensor 1s myself - but in wrong place for connecting to my TV. That is the alternative as I need a new amp. Spend money on amp and plug TV into it - but TV in front of me with speakers either behind me or to the side - dont know how that would sound

it will sound wrong as you see the person speaking but hear it behind you.

I've had B&O systems surrounding a room, also two B&O 4 foot speakers either side of TV. The best sound will always be the expensive 5.1 or 7.2 system but it will come down again to what I said earlier, what is it you want? just a better sound than the tiny TV speakers with clearer sound? then get an unobtrusive Yamaha sound bar.
Buy it online and use the distance selling rules and return it if you dont like it within a few days.

I am usually a big fan of Samsung stuff, Recently bought a new Samsung TV, 6400 series 40", I bought one of these at the same time:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/wireless-soundbars/flat-soundbars/HW-H751/XU

And I thought it was rubbish. No matter what preset I used the speech was awful and muted, and the bass was overpowering even on the lowest setting. It was actually outperformed significantly by the onboard speakers on the new TV, so much so that I took it back and am going without a sound bar. It did perform well with music and sound effects, but not for speech.
Very impressed with the onboard speakers on the Samsung 6400, I had assumed they would be rubbish because of the skinny size of the TV. Would not recommend the Samsung sound bar at all.

Well just for the heck of it I've plugged my TV into my amp and Dali Zensor speakers - wow!

But problem is indeed sound balance. Though if I turn up volume on the TV I get the TV as a source in front of me - esp important for voices - and you get the phenomenal depth and clarity from my audio system. Hmmm. Dunno, let's see what my Mrs and daughter says. And my daughter has some mates from Uni staying the weekend so I'll seek their honest opinion.

Or maybe I just get another older speaker of mine from the loft and place that behind the telly.

I have a Yamaha 863 AV and Anthony Gallo 5.1 speakers. They are small spherical speakers about the size of a large orange and produce great sound. The sub is hidden behind a chair.
