Don't know if these have been mentioned on here before, but do you belong to a society and if so what's the format?

I play in one four times a year, usually the first Friday in May, June, July and September.
Arrive for coffee and bacon roll, then nine holes of Texas scramble, sets you up for the day plus get to know any new players.
Lunch which is usually ploughmans, then 18 hole individual stableford with nearest the pins and longest drive and if suitable a nearest the pin in 2 on a shortish par four.
Meal, presentation and prizes in the clubhouse after.
Price is between £45-£60 depending on quality of course.

They're always great days and really look forward to them.
Looks like I'll also have a few forum days as well in the near future.

What is the name of your society?

Also how do you get into a society? :D

Prestonville Golf Society.

Just by talking to fellow golfers and members at your course.
And as you mentioned in an earlier post Mono, joining up and playing with friendly people.

Our society (membership of around 140, 20-50 playing at any one time) plays the good months from April to September playing some of the better clubs round NI. Always stableford and 2/3 course dinner afterwards.
Im captain this year and am going to try and make it a good days craic with something for everyone that plays, Im thinking a little 4 or 5oz flask or similar.

Have you not built up some brownie points Medwayjon, what with being laid up for a while?
How's the recovery going, and when do you expect to be back playing? Sorry about all the questions.

Golfmmad, should be at the range next week, had a private x-ray on friday and all bone damage is as good as better so well chuffed.

No brownie points sadly as I have been in the pub a fair bit and also at car auctions 2 nights a week.

Cant wait to start playing again and the Lydd meet cant come around quick enough.

Cheers for asking!

I am secretary of our society--12 outings a year, one a month running from October to September. Captains day in september which is a weekend away for some and a day trip for others.
32 members, average attendance 25.
Easy to organise with only 32 members as we only require an hour on the tee for most days.
Usual format singles s/ford with dinner and prizegiving afterwards.
We also organise a singles matchplay and a golfer of the year title.

Society is work based, with both current and retired members. Plays from March through to October and trys to alternate the courses so the same one's aren't played too often. September is always a weekend playing in France/Belgium.

March and October are generally 27 holes, bacon rolls to start and lunch.
The rest are 36 holes with at least two of these including lunch and dinner.

We get 50+ out three times a year in my old work society, singles stableford in the morning, greensomes in the afternoon. August is 36 hole championship medal at an upmarket course, usually get about 35 out for that. Great fun, good to catch up.
