So whats the point in the range ?

I disagree to a point that distance doesn't matter at the range. For one example, if you are too steep on the ball and generate uber backspin, then you're not going to get the distance. In extreme forms you can see it ballooning via the flight, but if you are slightly spinning too much then you will only really notice the issue when it comes to lack of distance. Of course, the quality of the range ball matters, but the general principle still applies.

When we meeting up at Hallgarth again? I shot 102 on Friday, il break 100 soon!

Hi mate, soon I hope, very good going, keep it up. I'm not having a good time at the moment on the course, trying too hard I think. I'm going to join the Hallgarth, £200 for a year membership (7 day unlimited ) is unbelievable so will be up there all the time, will probably sort this out in the next fortnight so will give you a shout.

If your trying to groove something through doing so many repetitions then its ok. Apart from that ive found its a waste of time. Hitting a ball at a driving range will never be the same as on the course. Not just the physical differences but its a totally different ball game mentally hitting shots on the course.

Ok sounds good mate

Speak soon

I'm using it for alignment practice at the moment, using my sticks to get the feel of aiming in different directions and its certainly helping when out on the course. Saying that though now I've joined a club with ground that's decent in all weathers I will probably go for a round rather than the range. It certainly helps though and shouldn't be overlooked in my opinion.

I tend to use the range to groove swing changes or work on specific drills. For "proper" practice I use the facilities at my club where I can hit off grass and use proper balls. There is a huge difference

I only really go to the range in Winter. Mostly because the wife is watching crap soaps on the TV and I get cabin fever.

When I'm there, I hit a dozen or so to warm up then hit to specific targets and concentrate on making a good strike. Alignment is my problem and I fins this helps. Sometimes I put alignment sticks down to help if im way off !!

What's all this talk of grooving a swing and practice?

Surely everyone goes to the range try and smash as many balls as possible to the end of the range with the driver?

Never worry about how far the range ball goes. At the moment the range is used to groove swing changes, usually though its for practice and drills that keep the game ticking along and getting consistency in the strike to allow everything to function on the course with having to think about it
