• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

So I had my custom fit session, bought the recommended clubs and now....

Which J40s though!

I was out with a guy who has the 'Dual Pocket' J40s. Looked OK but a bit too large for me - now that I have discovered the tiny ones. The Blades are 'purdy' but I'd suggest the middle of that range model - or earlier equivalents (J38/36).

I actually tried both the J40 DPC and the Muscle Back ones. Both were excellent-teh DPC's as you say slightly more forgiving but both very workable.

Imurg-what happened with the Ping i15's? Did you just take the hit/loss or did the fitter help you out in any way with a good deal on trade in?

Were they both static measurement?

I believe Ping only uses Static measurement - but not 100% certain.

Was the Mizzie 'Static' or did it use a lie board and swing - of several clubs - so 'dynamic'!

And was that also the case with GKWilly?

The fit was some static first to get a rough idea then dynamic with different lie angles, shaft stiffness, shaft lengths and grip thickness tried on each occasion.

Well, it sounds like you've really given them a good go... I guess you could think about what happened at the fitting and how it was done all day long... Fact is the clubs don't work for you for whatever reason. I would go to the free check-up thingy... See if something positive comes out of that...maybe the fitter has some experience of this happening to other clients. if not then you have to seriously think about dumping them. It's a lot of money to lose but if your distances are inconsistent and you're just not confident in them then then you can't carry on with them...

Have you considered a lesson (yes I know). Could it just be a small swing fault creeping in?

Yes Homer-I think the guy who fitted me will do a review of the club plus a mini lesson to see if anything is different from the fitting. We did discuss my swing in detail at the fitting so should be able to see it if there is a difference. Put some more work in with them today- a mixed bag but the last ball I hit with the 6 iron was perfect so I have renewed hope...

twice ive been on flightscope, desperate to hear "I 20's would suit you fine". Twice I walked away disappointed.
G25's, so far (and for me) are the way to go. Hope they come good for you.

Just a follow up to this.

I have persevered with the Pings with no improvement. I have contacted the fitter to ask for a reassessment next week BUT today went for a fit at another place recommended by a friend.

I used the Pings as a reference and then a few other irons. One in particular saw my swing speed go up by 7/8 mph, distance was up and dispersion was tighter than anything else! The Pings were OK but just seem not to be the best for me.

I don't want to blame the original fitter as I guess the results on the day just don't match up to how I am doing on the course but just such a disappointment looking at changes so soon.

What head/shaft were these?

what did you have before? Are the i20's dramatically different?

I have struggled since getting the rocketbladez, moving from G10 monsters I still cant seem to get to grips with them even though they are fitted!

Your 10 shots better than me so must be a lot more consistant and a better ball striker so I doubt a change would have such a dramatic effect.

Thats what we need to look out for, getting fitted is one thing, but gettng fitted with the right clubs is another.

Do not get too down about it. I got my new irons a few eeks ago and it has taken me about 6 rounds to get use to them. I had Mizzy MP-33 with S400 shafts. When I got fitted I ended up getting JPX 825 PRO with X100 shafts. The actual length and lie stayed the same though. But I have stuck with them and now I am hitting them further and more consistent than the MP33. Give it a bit of time and do not do anything drastic. I was struggling with the way the club looked in my hands and the weight after using some tiny little blades. But I have stuck with them and it has worked a treat and I am loving them now.
