I played a 2 ball with my regular playing partner. We got to one of the par 3's where 3 of the green keepers were working on the greenside bunkers, on seeing us they stepped aside for us to play. I hit first, just short right and my mate hit a pearl of a contact down the left side of the hole so we signalled to the 2 guys standing that side to be careful - anyway, no worry as his ball hit the front windscreen of their tractor, left facing us beside thr bunker, causing it to explode.

I reckoned if he hit a thousand balls he couldn't do it again!

Go on then, what have you done on the Course?

We have a couple of lads who have started at our place as apprentices. They have been there about 18 month - two years. The have no interest in golf what so ever. Last year a PP was playing his ball from a fairway bunker. He had his hybrid in his hand and when he hits it, well it goes miles. These two lads were doin some bunker work in the same bunker. One moved twenty yards to the right the other moved five yards. PP told him to stand with his pal. He said " am OK al watch it". PP asked him again. He stayed there.
PP proceeded to hit the sweetest hybrid he had ever hit, that was until it hit the frame of the tractors trailer about a yard in front of said apprentice. The ball rebounded about 120 behind PP, the noise was just like a gun had gone off. PP went ballistic, not about his ball but That said Apprentice would not move.
we mentioned it to the secretary and head green keeper. Who said they would have a word with him.
It has not sunk in with him coz we have had several other near hits.

out of interest op, where did the ball end up.

Nothing as smashing as that but played Horsforth a couple of years ago and had about 100 yards to the green, small stone bridge on the left on the 10th. Thinned a wedge an inch above the fairway like a missile, hit the bridge and rebounded in exactly the same position as I hit my shot - cue my 2 mates absolutely p***ing themselves rolling about on the floor.

Nothing as bad as that really.

Once I was teeing off on the first tee which was directly below the member's restaurant. Hit a driver which went to the right- and straight into the window of a wee shelter they had on the 7th tee box. Luckily it didn't smash and just cracked. Don't think anyone noticed!

When I first started in the early 90's, I played with a guy who had a set of very cheap irons and woods - can't remember the brand but even back then I knew they were cheap..
Midway through then found he lines up a drive, may have been using a Molitor, and took a swing at it.
His clubhead, quite literally, exploded into fragments - I don't know if he hit the ground or a stone or whatever but we ducked as if a shotgun had gone off..

Never actually smashed anything...but did come really close to smashing a child in the skull in what was my most frightening moment on course.

Playing at Westerham and just off to the right of one of the greens is a practice green, which had approx 15 kids (aged around 7/8) having a lesson with the pro. I was 130 yards out and decided to hit a little wedge into the green.

Unfortunately that little wedge turned it a push right blade about 4 feet off the ground....I absolutely screamed fore and not a single person even flinched.....the ball shot straight through the group and into the bushes behind. I've never been so relieved.

The Pro wasn't amused with me.

So you did not tell them? Ah, golfers ... the people who call punishments on themselves when their golf ball rolled a fraction of an inch to the right, but then sneak off if they actually damage something ... I doubt they would have made you pay for it, I am pretty sure that golf courses are injured for stuff like that, but I think you should have informed someone in the proshop or club house about it.

Yeah I most likely should have. All the other windows were cracked as well though and one was broken. So I didn't think they really cared about fixing it.

nothing was smashed as such but a very near miss on Sunday.

We were playing the 18th a Brora. its a 200 yard par 3 uphill. there is a block of retirement flats on the right up a bank, prob 100 yards away. one of my PP shermaned a 4 iron and it hit one of the balcony windows and bounced off. luck it wasn't earlier in the day or the window would have been open.

Little bit different as I was on a driving range.

I was hitting balls for a while when a guy went out onto the range with his tractor about 200 yards away and was doing some work behind it.

I shouted to him I was hitting my woods and he waved me to carry on,the first 2 went close and the 3rd hit him full on the head and he went down hard, when he finally got up he stopped work.

I'm not sure if this is meant to be funny or not??

18th at Gillingham, 135ish par-3, light fading, so in a hurry to finish.

Always a 9-iron, teed up in a hurry, hit it, and at that moment realised that it my hurry I had hit a 6-Iron by mistake, we could do nothing other than admire it work it's way into the car park

Someone's car was left with a lovely dent in the roof, told office what I'd done, never heard another thing about it.

Managed to hit a sweet hybrid which hit a stone turned violently right and hit the green keepers mower bar full on. The rebound went 20 yards behind me!

Was 'smashed' on the arm while in my front garden by a golfer's second shot. When he appeared to carry on up the fairway I shouted and asked if he was going to check whether I was injured - the returning high volume, string of Anglo-Saxon was incredible as he forcefully stated I was interrupting his shot routine! I was sorely tempted to smash certain parts of his anatomy.

Obviously not a Forum member.

I remember a forum meet, one of my first, where murph and two others all hit the same metal bin off the tee, it was about 20 yards off to the left...

I once signed on a friend who hadn't played golf for years. No surprise then when he didn't hit one decent shot in 17 and a half holes.
But on the 18th he hit a decent drive but slightly blind sighted on the right. I'm on the left hand side playing first hitting a 5 iron [ a few years ago, its a 3 wood now  ]

But too late he's already set to go and pulls the trigger with his 3 wood, before i can say anything.
Whoooosh, I watched it rocket over the 18th green over the practice putting green, over the wall and path in front of the clubhouse then ricochet into the locker room just as a guy open the door .
Thankfully no one was hurt but it was a scary moment.

Teeing off on one of the holes that runs parallel with the road on the par 3 course at Hoebridge, hit a lovely shank that arced beautifully high straight into the road and just missed going through the sun roof of a car that was passing - milliseconds out from an ace of sorts.
As it missed the car, hit the road and bounced straight over a very high wall on the other side. I think they've changed the design of the hole now.
