looking for an all in one smart watch as trying to get fit and looking to combine everything.

My phones a samsung galaxy S7 so the logical pick is samsung gear s3- the frontier one looks lovely and I think better designed than the apple watch - https://www.venturedirect.co.uk/pro...X1hU-bS-7m7iTbxoC0rvw_wcB&variant=36721153866

for the GPS function to work on these smart watches (for both running and golf) do you need to have the phone physically on you or will it work if you leave the phone in the house/locker for example?

I'd like it to have a heart monitor and sleep tracker too but not sure the samsung does as can't find anything. pretty sure the apple watch does have the heart mointor function though.

Are there any others out there that people would recommend? I do like the fact the samsung can be wore as an actual watch too.

The GPS is built into the watch so it will work/track progress without having the phone connected.

I found a bit more info here - http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-s3/

I have/use the Garmin Vivoactive HR which is great for running/cycling etc. For golf it downloads the course from my phone before I tee off and then just gets on without being connected. I suspect the Samsung one would work in a similar way. Looks like a smart bit of kit.

I think the Garmin looks like a good job, I looked at it when I was thinking about one. I ended up with an Apple Watch 2, with built in gps, it's great for most things, day n daily, running it is very good and cycling too, but not found it useful for golf yet, tried hole19 but couldn't make it work for me, I am sure there is something out there. I'm kind of in the place where I think the Garmin would have been the better option, and at less than half the price but too late now.

That Samsung is a nice looking piece of kit

Currently have a vivoactive, its biggest issue is it really is square and ugly. This is a nice looking watch, could definitely be tempted to switch to one if it was compatible with my phone

Having a bit more of a look at this it runs on its own OS rather than on android which appears to greatly limit the apps available and ultimately limits the functionality of the watch greatly imo, shame because aesthetically its such an improvement on what I have and has some nice features

Ah does it? I asked on amazon community can it be used as a golf gps watch and someone said yes. I'll maybe look a bit more into it. no point getting if there's not a good selections of apps to use. in saying that if it does golf and running it's likely enough for me. It does have heart rate and sleep tracking monitor too which was another thing I was interested in. Have dropped a hint for HID for my april b'day so if I get it will let you know.

Need to check but think the Tom Tom Golfer 2 can work as a step counter etc as well as a golf watch. Got one for Xmas but not used it yet as not played since November.

In a similar position I was looking more at golf watches that had other functions rather than smart watches that could be used as a golf GPS as it was that which I wanted to be most accurate.

I use a Huawei watch when not golfing because I like it as a watch as well as the smart functions. Sadly no GPS and so needs a phone connected to use it for golf. Aside from that, top watch and I picked mine up for £169

Bought the Garmin X40 and love it - amazing bit of kit

Wife has the Vivoactive HR thingy that she can swim in - a little square and large but does loads of things including a course guide for golf

Call me vain

However I have just seen one on a persons wrist and to be frank, the watch is huge.

Looks like a sun dial.

Think I might not bother purely on asthetics.
Ha Ha, the link don't show that, are you sure the person didn't have weedy arms ;)

I have the gear S3 and the golf app is good and accurate. However it shows elevation change as well as yardage, which I think will mean it's a no-no for comps.

Other than that I love it, paired with my s7 edge.

Hmmmmmmm back to maybe getting. How does the golf work is it a pre installed gps feature or do you download the app? Wonder if you use a different app with no elevation feature would that make it acceptable? I posted on another thread about apple watch maybe not being acceptable due to compass, wind direction etc and was told as long as feature not in use then should be fine

I use Golf Navi, it's an extra install but it is free. Matches my Garmin S3 for yardages and features. I bought it as a smart watch that I could also use for golf, not a golf watch that was smart. It does look good and there are lots of straps available.
