Have these "influenced" your gas/electricity usage at all?

For me it sits in the kitchen and all it does is tells me my bill before I get it. I'm still using electricity/gas as and when I need it and paying it at the end of the month. Am I doing something wrong, should I be "monitoring" it more often?

Don't have them, and wont until they bring out Smets2 that is uniform to all suppliers.
I just try to keep useage down to a minimum, by turning things off when not needed.

I use mine just to tell the time tbh. Or when the wife is away, turn things on just to see it redline ..:ROFLMAO:

I don't handle the bills so I'm not sure if these SM are working.

I have SMET 1 and I am impressed only because of 1 feature.. It didn't go "dumb" when I moved supplier

I originally got it with sainsburys 2 years ago.. I then moved to british gas (who own sainsburys) so it remained fully operational (expected) however this year I switched to a 2 year fixed (because of brexit fixed for longer) to ovo. I was expecting the meter to go "dumb" and id need a new one. However it still works In a way that works for me... my metres are in a cupboard under the stairs (like a lot of peoples) however we have a lot of things in front of it.. when we moved in I bought a cheap selfie stick to hold my phone round the corner of the stairs to get a picture of the meter without getting out everything each time.. perfect.. the smart meter still displays my usage.. (live) and my current meter readings.. that's all I want! I give ovo the readings every month via the App and happy days.. it sits in kitchen so much easier.

should also note that SMET 1 will be upgraded via a software drop to work with all suppliers later this year so I wont need to replace and it will become fully smart again by 2020

Hmm interesting..Got a SMET 1 via Bgas has a few years but it turned dumb when I switched supplier now bulb offering to put Smet 2.. but looks like it might not be needed.. if only our suppliers used the common database and avoid the cost

I thought the reason for a smart meter was for the info to go automatically to the provider. I've had a smart meter for a few years and I've never had to send a reading off to anyone.

Yes but as I said I left my provider.. but the meter still works ie reads your meter just keeps the readings to itself

It’s easier for me to read than the one under stairs

But it will go online by Xmas

NO. All it does it saves me going outside of the house to get meter readings.

I too have one from a previous supplier that does not send readings to the new supplier. They have said they will fit a new one sometime but it still will not change my usage habits.

Smart meters are brilliant, its those stupid screens they sent with them that was the big mess up.

Should have linked them to a mobile app instead, I think when it started phones were becoming ubiquitous so it should have been quickly scaled back. I agree some people would rather have had the screen but those are in the minority.

When they fix this massive error we will be in a better place for it. Sadly it has just gone down as a huge waste of money, which it was.
