Slowest golf I have ever seen!

We try but they steadfastly refuse to call you through. We've asked politely on the course, discussed it in the bar raised it I officially with the captain but no-one interested and hey don't see that they are doing anything wrong.

Members club? Been raised with the committee or at an AGM? Cant see me sticking there as a member if youre guaranteed a slow round every weekend, that said seems to be becoming more and more acceptable (its amaziong what is acceptable after watching a pga tour event lol)

Hi agan

Are you saying that during play while being held up one or other of you have approached the group and politely said that you are being held up on every shot and would they let you through? And they refused?

dandpl

At a 4bbbb invitation comp, our game was made up to a 6 ball , because 2 players from the previous t/time didn't turn up.
We tried our best to keep up with the games in front , and waved games through when possible . But its near impossible for a six ball to keep up, i will refuse to play in one ever again. Even if it is ,pals of the council that don't turn up.

not sure why you responded with this to my post?

5hrs is a perfect round for me when playing in a 4-ball on a busy course. No point in rushing as there's nowhere to go, let a few groups through if they want, enjoy the sun, shoot a good score - job done.

People going out and expecting to be home in 3hrs are more annoying that slow players... people who moan about slow play (when you're playing) are by far the most irritating people on the planet.

I have this evil idea that the next time someone says "God it's so slow, I can't stand it like this, it really puts me off..." I'm just going to say "Well GO HOME THEN!!!!"

Couldnt agree more. Its the same with people who are always complaining about the state of the course, I always ask them why they havent left then...its usually enough to stop moaning to me, they can carry on moaning to someone else, I wont listen to it.

Surely as a members club, the committee is able to speak to this group and tell them to either speed up or play later?

A well aimed long drive through the middle of them might give them a heads up to get a move on or let you through. Of course you would call the obligatory 'fore' to let them know, the apology would be of course be, 'sorry, caught a flier' or even better ' didn't realise you we're walking so slow, sorry'
Please bear in mind, the hard part is well aimed long drive and I do not condone wilfully trying to take out fellow golfers

Ours is a long track and normally 4 1/2 hrs on a busy Sunday, generally most people let others through so do not encounter this to often, thankfully

each to their own james but that sounds like purgatory to me, 5hrs means waiting on every shot, no rhythm etc at tadmarton on friday as a 4 ball we were round in 3 1/2 hrs, short course yes but tyhere was no faffing about but also no rushing, just a decent pace of play. if a course i was at thought 5hrs for a comp round was acceptable id be finding a new course

Indeed, each to their own as you say. I don't WANT to take 5hrs but I understand that when the weather's nice a course is busy and there's all levels of golfer out there then it SHOULD be expected to be quite slow. I wouldn't expect to finish ANY course at a forum meet in less than 4 1/2 hrs as everyone is so concerned about making an ass of themselves.

In comps I find it frustrating but then there's always 100 odd people teeing off at my place, unlike at RickG's gaff where you can have a comp with only 7 people

Cant beat an 8 runner comp lol ;)

Be good to get another game again this summer :)

Because i don't think a 6ball can keep PACE with a 4ball , maybe i'm responding to the wrong post sorry if i am . My point is my 4ball shouldn't have been put in that situation.

the point of my post was that either they did, or they don't (play more that a 4)

persona experience suggests they can easily, and I used to play a regular 9 ball that would press the course pace (including any 2 balls out there) - it was all youngsters inc Paul Way and others that went on to make a good living at the game as professionals, but numbers alone aren't the issue.

I have also seen 2 balls that can't keep up with course 4 ball pace - but strangely no one seems keen to ban them...

During competitions we have set time limits at our place,if you do not reach certain points on the course within a set time then you MUST call the following group through. If you are still behind by the 10th tee you will be asked to speed up or risk disqualification.
Slow play is not acceptable,be ready to play when its your turn, play a provisional if you are unsure where your ball has landed, and if you are losing ground to the game in front then call the following group through.
