played this morning in the last comp, only two of us, tee'd off at 9.30am one of the slow players was teeing off at 9am. with one other 3 ball between them and us. They got though on the 2nd we were though on the 4th. round in 3.15 without too much trouble and went though a couple of other groups.

had a spot of lunch chatted to a couple of other groups then headed to the range at 2pm and the guys who went out at 9am were just getting to the 18th green.. 5 hours which is pretty poor but they had let though at least 10 groups.

we always say take as long as you like as long as you let people though... which they certainly did.

Its a problem when you're a 4 ball and everyone else is in 2s and 3s. If you do it properly, you end up letting loads of groups through and that costs you 6 or 7 minutes each time....easy to take an hour more than normal.

They were a 3 ball and the group behind was a 3, we were a 2 and so were the other groups through. they also let two fours balls of American visitors through!!

We have 10 mins between groups and only 3 balls in comps. Have only played a few comps (fairly new to the club) but seems to work fairly well. We had a wet one the other day where 2 players from the same group didn't turn up so it also gave the opportunity for the lone player to go out with the next group. Seems to be a decent system. Certainly seems faster at this club than my old one. Often 5 hr rounds before, haven't gone over 4:20 here, even on a later tee time.

I started one of my last singles matches behind a society of 5 four balls. By the 3rd hole they had all let us through.

I think the friendly starter had told them my opponent was a well known Pro:lol:

Gonna be a slow one for me today, last group out and they have us drawn as a 2 ball, work that one out. Other lad plays at 100mph, he literally walks up to his ball and hits it 😁

Played in a club match yesterday (four ball better ball). The group in front had lost THREE holes and even when they shook hands on the 15th they didn't let our still live match through and still continued to take an age especially on the greens. Five hours for matchplay. I told our two (once the opposition went home ) it was unacceptable and one, notoriously slow just laughed and said "you should learn to concentrate better". Things got a bit heated but I felt as we were the home club our players had a responsibility for pace of play even if, as they suggested, the other side were the ones causing the problem.

How should this situation be managed? We did mention it to them on the course but with no marshall, what else can be done. I wish common sense as per the OP could have broken out and we were let through..... and breath
