ok, strange one, but my shoulder problems are aparently being made worse by how i sleep.
i sleep on my stomach or side but always have my arm under the pillow, i have tried to change positions but cant, any one any ideas that may help. thanks

It's a tough one. I have carpal tunnel syndrome as I wrap my hand under my chin/jaw in some weird way and now also get a very sore jaw! I am getting more aware of this though as I turn over/settle down and try to immediately move it which does seem to help. Problem is getting to sleep in a position that feels different or uncomfortable. Have you tried a memory foam mattress or pillow which might help a bit?

Nope :)

I have the same problem with my right shoulder, I have my arm under the pillow.... I've learned to sleep on the other side with my left arm under the pillow now.... mostly helped by swapping sides of the bed... I just can't stand looking at her at night!!!!

Tried both amanda, bought a new matress there a few montgs back and been through countless pillows.
j/o i asked the wife to switch sides but she wont, likes her side too much :(
i was hoping that there was a miracle cure lol

Is it the position of your shoulder or the weight of your head on it? Just wondering if the joint is "opened" by the position whether a small bolster pillow under your armpit might offer support? Or just a rolled up towel?

Tempur mattress should sort it. Highly recommended. Not cheap though.

We got one after a recommendation from a physio and it has worked wonders for my back pain.

JT , not sure what shoulder problems you have , i was having problems wit the muscles around my shoulder blades geting tight & giving me pain up into my neck & into my chest etc ..went to my cousin who is a sports physio, she reckoned it was my sleep position , i went from 2 pillows to one havent had any problems since .. took bout 3 days to clear up initaly ..

I seem to remember watching the Titleist TPI video that said if they could they'd get all golfers to sleep with their arms by their sides, even if they had to tie them!

I try to make sure that I keep my right arm by my side now and have my left arm under the pillow, it took a while to get used to, as I said I did get the missus to change sides but I can sleep either side now... not that I'm gonna tell her that!!!

the wife has just dug out a pillow she used when she was pregnant its a v shape one, so going to try it before buying a new one.
thanks again folks

And if you get sex tonight you ken what she's up to!!!!!!!

I normally sleep on my side as I find it most comfortable, when I hurt my back playing rugby it was incredibly painful to sleep in my normal position, the only one that didnt hurt was just sleeping flat, it took me longer to get to sleep each night and I had to make a conscious effort to not turn on my side at times, but changing your sleeping position can be done, if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of sleep just try and consciously sleep in a position (sounds weird I know) that won't give you problems, worked for me :)
