Okay my forum buddies, who's plated the two courses at Slaley Hall. Is it worth the trip to go and play there ?

Any sensible feedback appreciated.

Have only played the Priestman, the Hunting is by all accounts much better. The Priestman is a nice track, fairly open with large greens so not too difficult, but you can be left with some rather long putts over some tricky slopes!..Beware the 3 putt! There are a few holes with water on them which make it interesting.

Which course are you planning on playing, or both?

Just booked this morning to play the Hunting course next Friday. Have heard so many good things about it, and the vouchers from my golf insurance just bring it within reasonable price for me. Really looking forward to it.

Thinking of doing a midweek overnight to play both the courses. Just looking for some first hand accounts of the courses before we make up our minds.

Overnight stay is good, that way you get to play both courses. Never stayed overnight but the hotel looks smart, and the bar is nice. Only downside is that it might be full of geordies :D

Played the Hunting a few times and its an immaculate course, always well presented and the greens are top notch. The front nine holes are excellent all different and flow from one to the other with varying degrees of difficulty, the 9th is easily the hardest hole and green. For me though the back nine lets it down a bit as the holes are more up and down. The greens are still in good nick but to me it almost seems like they are two different 9 hole courses although the the finish on the 18th with the castle like hotel to the side is very impressive. Enjoy

DCB : 16 of us went last June for 3days, and played Hunting & Priestman twice each.
Hotel superb, very nice, wouldnt hesitate to go back.

Courses: We were there just before the Seniors Tour Event, so the Hunting was in immaculate condition. Lovely course, and some lovely holes, well worth playing and a good test.
The Priestman was having a lot of work done, in fact most of the Bunkers were totally out of action, but perhaps its all sorted now. Not as spectacular, but still not bad.

We'd actually rebooked for this year, and then found out the damned Seniors has booked again for our weekend, so we've had to change venue.
However, we will go back.

Get booked, it wont dissapoint.

If you are going before start of May then just don't as it a very wet hole until then and after mid September.

Mate played there 2 weks ago and he said the Hunting was in a dire mess but as I say it's a course I personally would only play in June,July and August.

I like the courses, despite it being a hotel chain it has a mix of holes, not just your usual big tees, big fairways, big bunkers and big greens crap that 99% of them are.

Yeah played it last year the wind blew hard and the course kicked my arse. Beautiful course though agree the front nine is stronger but back nine is still better than most around.

Looking to go again myself in next month or so.
