Recommend your "hidden gems" within c.50 miles of Leeds / York

Hillsborough might be worth a look, very enjoyable, and I have to agree with Crazyface, Rotherham was a pleasure to visit, although it was some years ago for both courses.
Nor is this a hidden gem

Both have hosted numerous county events

Close it 😱. Threads like these are brilliant for putting together a mini trip. Absorb the advice, store the names away for a future time. I'd never even heard of Bondhay before 👍
I just meant you'll struggle to find a more hidden gem than Bondhay.
And the fact you've not heard of it is proof positive. 🤣
Now close the thread. 😉

How about we acknowledge the fine example given, although as I haven't played it I'm slightly wary of that as it could be rubbish still 🤭, but keep the thread open?

See your comment as a mic drop and take the win 😄

I enjoyed all the courses around Scunthorpe when I worked at Scunthorpe General for a couple of years. Also enjoyed a trip down to Louth.

Surprised about Northcliffe or maybe I've played it too many times.

Skipton's a lovely course but probably best played after April time to dry out.
I really like Knarsborough the couple of times I've played it.

Played Elsham many years ago - can't remember a lot about it.

I bought a 4 ball at Holme Hall in our Seniors Christmas charity auction.
Holme Hall is nice enough.

If you're coming over from Leeds then Brough and Hessle are always in excellent condition (weather dependent). Hessle has challenging greens, Brough is a short, tight, very well manicured course that is better played during a dry spell.

I think Hessle is the venue for Yorkshire Junior Team Championship this year, I’ve heard it’s quality - the lad will be looking forward to playing it if he’s selected.

I think Hessle is the best course around Hull. I can vaguely remember playing Beverley a long time ago and enjoying the day but, in truth, I can’t remember a single hole.

Beverley is a really quirky course, laid out on common land with greens roped off to stop cattle going on. You have to contend with public appearing out of nowhere, I came across a family having a picnic in a grassy hollow just in front of one of the greens on a long par 4, I had no clue they were there until they stood up after my approach landed short and rolled through them 😬 and another time a mum and her young son were flying a kite between the tee and green on a par 3, she wouldn't move and I had to walk the hole :ROFLMAO:

Really enjoyed it the few times I have played there though despite the above.

Thanks.

I have always enjoyed Brough - but after an incident there which left a bad taste - I won't return out of principle.

For some reason I just didn't take to Hessle. Playing gash is probably a factor!

Round Hull - I'm a big fan of Kirkella (aka Hull GC) and also enjoyed the 36 holes I played at Cottingham Park \ Skidby Lakes.

Thanks all for the further suggestions.

Going with a short list of the following to start with:

Bondhay
Cavendish
Worksop
Ripon
Skipton
Crossland Heath
Halifax West End

I fancy Beverley but my PP doesn't do quirky! We need to have a conversation about that one !

Think I might also try squeeze in Forest Pines. Must be 15 years since I played there.

Right, off to see what Golf Empire can deliver.

Don't do Halifax West End, it's down to 16 holes now I believe. It's Halifax (locally known as Ogden) that you want.
