Sky coverage of LPGA!

. I can not remember the panacea of sport that existed on the BBC that people seemed to remember. I'll give you Test cricket, but the rest is rose tinted memories.

You're probably right on this and in fairness Sky is pretty good.

I suppose that for me the golfing highlight of the year has always been The Open and to be able to sit and watch 8 hours of interrupted coverage on final Sunday has always been bliss. Sky will undoubtedly do their best within the constraints of their business model, but nevertheless we will have to endure a significant amount of ad breaks and that will spoil it for me and many others too I suspect.

The romantic in me says - Shame! The realist says - Pfft! C'est la vie:confused:

JD - I would not argue with that. The BBC is the only one that could offer that though and if they are not really interested any more then there is not a lot that can be done. Don't forget that when cricket went to CH4 we had to endure ad breaks then as well. When Sky control the coverage the ad breaks tend to be short and snappy and I don't find them too intrusive. It is the US coverage that grates but that is out of their control. Time moves on and there is not a lot can be done. No point continuously looking back.

One thought, how long before the licence fee ends and the BBC has ad breaks as well? It can't last forever in its current form.

every time i turned on the women's golf they seemed to be interviewing some blokes in suits being patronising about how much they were doing for women's golf..

presumably a PR campaign after the sacking of the last PGA president for calling poulter a girl.....

to be honest i found the women's golf quite refreshing from the week in week out regular PGA tour coverage...

More or less given up on watching any of the golf on Sky as the coverage is so appalling...

Been, a couple of times, to the ladies event at The Buckinghamshire and can vouch for it being a thoroughly good day out...

I just dont understand how people can say that the golf coverage on Sky is appalling.

Granted the US stuff is a little disjointed at the start with the ad breaks and changing over of host broadcaster etc, but they are up front about those things and once the full US broadcast gets going it is less of a problem. The european stuff doesnt suffer the same and is tremendous.

Maybe its because I take into account how many pences I am handing over every month for their inadequate service...

I temper this, with the fact, that they cover other sports well I suppose...

Ryder Cup btw was faultless...

So, if they can do it one week why not every week?

I think the golf coverage is one of the best things on sky. Sky Sports 4 is almost a dedicated golf channel these days and they cover plenty of different events; PGA Tour, European Tour, Challenge Tour, Europro Tour and even stuff like the Trilby Tour.

For most PGA Tour events they are in the hands of the American broadcaster and they don't have much say over what gets shown. Unfortunately, ridiculous amounts of ad breaks is a way of life in American broadcasts but Sky try fill some of the gaps by going back to studio analysis or the sky cart for interviews with players who have finished. That is much better than ads every two minutes. The European Tour doesn't have the same restrictions and the coverage is much better.

It would be great if we didn't have to pay sky so much to watch the golf, but the sad truth is even if the terrestrial channels could afford the golf they wouldn't show half as much on tv as sky do.
