SkY caddie- Offering advice

Hi

Here is the "Definitive answer"

Taken from Decisions on the Rules of Golf 2008/2009

Pg 131 Para 8/12

"Information regarding the distance between 2 objects is public information and not advice. A player may ask ANYONE inc his opponent the distance between his ball and the hole .

EXCEPT when the local rule allowing distance measuring devices has been adopted. Information regarding distance MUST NOT have been obtained from an artificial device. A player who obtains information that he knew was measured by anyone with an artificial device during the players round is DISQUALIFIED"

So if your opponent has one dont ask, and if you have one dont offer OR ELSE

Well there it is. Don't ask. Don't give.

Just being pedantic now but what are yardage books if they're not artificial devices?

If this one doesn't prove that the rules/decisions are way too complicated nothing will. Sharing of distances is ok when measured by yardage book but not when measured by GPS. There's logic there somewhere but I can't see it.
The R&A need to come down on one side or the other on this GPS debate. They're getting splinters in their bums sitting on that fence.

EXCEPT when the local rule allowing distance measuring devices has been adopted. Information regarding distance MUST NOT have been obtained from an artificial device.

Now read it and get the right conclusion....feel free to share yardages chaps no matter how you get them (obviously ot with slope though!!)...
