Sinkholes

That's mental.
Not quite to that scale but the village I grew up in was terrible for sinkholes opening up. The adjoining village was worse as it was built on 13th century monastery mines. In one case a guy was in his garden, went in to the house and heard a noise "like gravel being tipped out of a trailer" and opened the door to find a 10ft sinkhole around 30ft deep and his pigeon loft gone.
When it was investigated it was found to have opened on a mine shaft that went into a spiders web of other shafts all under the village and miles around. Months of work shoring it all up then ensued.
